Trash bins as decor – Uniquely Singapore!

Singapore must be the only country in the developed world where landed property owners use trash bins to decorate their million dollar properties! Just look at this row of terrace houses along Marshall Road. Every house has two large bins – one for trash and the other for recyclable objects.

I understand that this form of decoration is forced upon property owners by the authorities. The Ministry of the Environment has apparently been encouraging us to keep Singapore clean and recycle plastic, paper, cans etc for years but without success. We are apparently poor learners when matters don’t affect our material well-being We have no time for the preservation of our environment.

And so we must be told (though we always disobey) where to throw our waste and recycle materials. And we are lazy too for walking 100 meters to look for the recycle bins is too much effort. The ministry therefor decrees that every household must be supplied with a big “green bin”, as if every household has so much recyclable objects which must be cleared at least once a week and a trash bin which must be cleared every day!

While people in other developed countries keep their bins in garages and backyards and move them to the pavement on days when the trucks come by, we, for the convenience of the rubbish collectors and the lack of space within our premises, display these bins proudly at our front entrances every day of the year! Convenience or so the ministry assumes, is what we want.

BUT BEWARE!

While the additional recycling bins did not initially cost us any additional fee, it will not be the case from this month onward. Flat owners will pay $8.25 a month, an increase of 0.76 cents and landed property owners $27.47 a month an increase of $2.66 cents from January 2019.
Sit back and think. This is a hefty increase of expenses every month!

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Is there a way to reduce cost and improve the image of Singapore? Bins are ugly. Tourists immediately notice the abundance of bins everywhere when they come here.

Of course there are many ways to reduce costs and make Singapore a clean and green city, if only the ministry of the environment have intelligent leaders who are serious in improving our environment. There is no need to increase costs.

In my opinion, Singapore has failed to be a clean and green city. We could have succeeded by now if we were serious decades ago. Blame the successive ministers of the environment for their lack of will power and innovation to make this small island a clean and green city. Reliance on contractors and cheap foreign labour as the only means to keep Singapore clean was all they knew. They earn millions and they don’t care that costs are passed down to consumers. It is none of their business. Do they really care about Singapore and Singaporeans?

many times,i observe that these workers pick the SMELLY RUBBISH (from cooking etc) from one neighbour’s bib and leave them in another resident’s bin or DUMP THESE LITTERS on the pavement for the garbage to pick them up at “one’ location along the row of houses?

IS THIS THE RIGHT WORK PROCEDURE?
IS SEMBCORP TAKING MONEY FROM SGS AND NONCHALANTLY GOING ABOUT CAUSING NUISANCE?

CAN THE mewr minister clarify on such practices?

We live in a time of social, economic and ecological unravelling. All around us are signs that our whole way of living is already passing into history. We will face this reality honestly and learn how to live with it.

We reject the faith which holds that the converging crises of our times can be reduced to a set of ‘problems’ in need of technological or political ‘solutions’.

We believe that the roots of these crises lie in the stories we have been telling ourselves. We intend to challenge the stories which underpin our civilisation: the myth of “progress”; the myth of human-centrism; and the myth of man’s separation from “nature”. These myths are more dangerous for the fact that we have forgotten they are myths.

Citizens of some countries with lower PISA scores or have fewer ‘scholars’ or ‘A’ exam students than Singapore have the sense to recycle thier wastes sensibly. And without the need of any carrot or stick. Not those raised under an education system overseen by the PAP over the past six decades, even with carrots and sticks. There simply are no sense up where it matters.

The irony of course is that our unthinking leaders think that we (and they) think better than others.

    @ Rethinking our Rubbish

RESPECTFULLY, VERY POWERFUL TRUTHS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF REALITIES expressed below, but when is changes going to come about when the annoying rats of 70% daft too stupid to even begin to discover they are stupid to impossibility also want “better” but refusing to change?

And the political leadership is stricken of paralysis of change adaption, completely unwilling to acknowledge reality and unyieldingly obstructive in total oppression of all reasoned voices agitating for change?

Rethinking our Rubbish: We live in a time of social, economic and ecological unravelling. All around us are signs that our whole way of living is already passing into history. We will face this reality honestly and learn how to live with it.

We reject the faith which holds that the converging crises of our times can be reduced to a set of ‘problems’ in need of technological or political ‘solutions’.

Professor Russell L. Ackoff taught us more than 40 years ago, we are heading for a future of increasing turbulent change and there are 4 modes of adaptation/maladaptation in societal response in the face of escalating complexity of relationships of relevant evolving contingent variables. These are:

    - inactivism
    - reactivism
    - preactivism
    - interactivism

Inactivism means DIAM DIAM DIAM, do nothing, ignoring turbulent changes around us. Reactivism is just putting out fire AFTER the flame ignited and burnt the house down to put out the smothering rubble likely to re-ignite again in the face of strong fanning winds of change. Preactivism is forecasting – we know it all, get a consultant (however stupid/incompetent scholar he/she might be) to propose contingent plan and then implement in by ramming down throat of those resisting never mind it is false “political solutions” & deluded by erroneous technological forecasting. Interactivism is learning of turbulent changes, understanding it and one of continuing adaptation as changes gives us better understanding of its evolving contingent variables and adapting our behavorial response according – improving at each step as we progress (climate change is one)

Social media in TRE as far as I can remember have been banging our heads against the wall of political insanity and obfuscation warning politics that we live in an era of TURBULENCE. The political response?

INACTIVISM AND OPPRESSION! Not one of the natural/unnatural aristocrat paying themselves millions EVER UTTER THIS WORD “turbulence” on the public stage.

    TO BE CONTINUED..

    @ Rethinking our Rubbish

Continuing from preceding post, the word “TURBULENCE” is in our national psyche and political mast*rbation of reality is an expletive – even, perhaps more vulgar of public utterance than the 4-lettered word called F_U_C_K.

Politics buried us into INACTIVISM, and the Pravda Sinkieland abetting – the only political imperative that must be uphold at all costs of this ludicrous preaching of “POLITICAL STABILITY” – the reality of it is a code words of “maintaining the status quo” of unspoken implied. The fiacking peasants is best left kept in the dark like mushroom fed with “sh*t” in darken room to grow faster of uninformed no awareness of reality – far easier to rule, dominate and oppress of dictatorship and good for the preservation of political hegemony and its longevity of power accumulation and wealth accumulation.

Anyone dissenting is “trouble-making” undesirable and must be ruthlessly and brutally eliminated by all means devious including trumped-up false allegations via detention without trial. Meantime, peasants must be continuously fed with “sh*t fake news to keep them stupid, dull and uninformed.

How can there be progress in turbulent change when false imperative is advanced and the boundaries of fake “solution” construct (if any at all and as if they alone have the monopoly of information, wisdom and virtue) and SILENT INACTIVISM cannot be challenged by non-violent agitation of sane informed voices crying out for change?

The political apex have stopped listening. Where is the learning in governance from within among these cunning fools of inactivism except when it matters of their own political survival, notorious preservation of income distribution inequality, consolidation of their own power base and of course the continuation of political hegemony and longevity of the same?

If political aristocrats utter the expletive ON THE PUBLIC STAGE – turbulence – it is POLITICALLY VERY DANGEROUS OF SUICIDE – the peasants will all wake up and start asking themselves this question – HOW COME THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP TOLD US OF TURBULENT CHANGES AND THEY CANNOT DELIVER OUTCOME that meets with the demand of favourable solution that these turbulent changes brought us to crisis? And how come they paid themselves so generous and rich of total undeserving when what we peasants can clearly see this contrasting reality – in the age of turbulent changes, IT IS CRISIS MANAGING THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP AND OUTCOME instead of leadership managing crisis and delivering favorable outcome?

THE THOROUGHLY INCOMPETENT POLITICAL APEX WOULD HAVE LONG BEEN VOTED OUT!! FAKE NEWS WOULD BE LONG GONE by their silence of truths.

    @ John Lim

MATE, YOU ARE WAY OFF TANGENCY – TSL is absolutely correct of bringing up the seriously critical subject of rubbish disposal – particularly for LEE-jiapore!

John Lim: TSL, don’t you have better matters to bring up? What’s wrong with placing trash cans in front of your house?.

Semakau landfill – the only available landfill for waste disposal – according to Ministry of Environment, has only capacity to receive discarded waste targeted at current volume to year 2045 BUT ON CURRENT ESTIMATE can only sustain to 2035 maximum.

Our population is now 5.8 million. Where do we discard our waste if population recycling economics adds to the population base? This is clearly UNSUSTAINABLE without MASSIVE INTENSIFICATION of recycling acceleration sooner than later? And if we want 10 million or more of presumed capacity according to some POLITICALLY-CORRECT architectural mind of fantasy dreaming, how do we dispose of radio-active consummables from a nuclear power plant needed to sustain energy demands of a 10 million or more population economic base?

The eyesores of TSL illustration is a WAKE-UP CALL to all peasants. So, please @ John Lim, WAKE UP NOW to insanity of no sustainability of

    - 10 million population or more target of PAPpy’s political solution to its failed economic agenda and

    - the stupidity and unsustainability of this insane population recycling economics.
