Simplify Medisave and make it voluntary

I saw a 10 page booklet explaining about Medisave. It tells what Medisave can be used for and the limits that apply.

As the booklet is in 4 languages, it covers 40 pages.

As there are limits, it means that for each treatment, the patient can use Medisave to pay for some of the cost and has to pay for the other cost in cash.

It is certainly quite troublesome, complicated and costly to administer.

Is there a better way?

Here are my suggestions:

a) Make Medisave voluntary. Allow the member to contribute to the Medisave account to earn an attractive interest rate of 4% per annum.

b) Allow Medisave to be used in full for any kind of approved medical treatment. The cost of the approved treatment can be capped by the Ministry of Health. The doctor or clinic cannot ask the patient to make a “balance payment”.

  • Why so complicated?:

    citizenship must have its privileges.

otherwise why become a nation and have NSF NSR?

pap by not honouring its duty as government of the day has failed.

the simplest method to unraveling the complicated situation is to have New Government by a better caring group of local born citizens. New citizens especially those from penang cannot hold any position in New Government. since by run road from own country of birth clear as day untrustworthy.

medical care for citizens need not be so complicated. vote into power New Government by a better caring group of LOCAL BORN citizens, voila, paradise once again in small island Singapore.

    Tan KL, please be REALISTIC!

Asking Mai Hum and Gang to simplify Medisave is like asking those MFs to GIVE UP a CASH COW scheme which they have been milking for a damn LOONG LOONG Time. MediSLAVE which is a component of the CPF(Con People Fund)is PURPOSELY made AS COMPLICATED AS POSSIBLE by Mai Hum to EnSLAVE CPF members the moment they start CPF contribution till they kick the bucket.

  • Haywire Complex:

The problematic sir, is that the Elites have corporatised MOH under Temasek Holdings. This is an institutional anomaly across first world countries: The government is using taxpayers money and their humongous MEDISAVE payouts to build and operate Singapore’s public hospitals and polyclinics; and the government is at the same time seeking and making profits from the citizens when we consult doctors, undergo treatment and purchase medication.
Hence, customary bureaucratic administration is all tangled up with corporate ambitions and business profits. There’s So Much Money in the Medisave Funds today it’ll easily pay for universal health care for all Singaporeans – if we only had natural aristocrats governing the country for free.

  • WP or PV:

Pay 13.5 times of income tax per year still not enough…still dig into CPF with medisave, medishield etc… KNN. Some more GST going up next year! WTF.

So what the Gov for? Enrich themselves?

WP or PV should abolish all these nonsense.
SDP and people like TKL no brain, talk to them useless.

Medisave is one the gd option implemented by the gov, to me more should done on this component as medical cost are growing. Mayb the gov can implement some saving schemes by combing with the SA to give a better interest rate and high interest earned.

BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR below. CPF and interest in banking deposits in LEE-jiapore generally ALWAYS TAILGATE US 10-yr treasury bond yields (it has been like this for 30 yrs). Govt. does NOT print money to give you a “better interest rate and high interest earned” you earnestly yearn on. It has to earn from somewhere either by productive effort or reinvest your savings in higher interest bearing environment like the higher yield US 10 yr treasury yield market.

IF THE US 10 YR BOND YIELD NOW RUNNING AT 2.39% P.A. MOVES UP TO 4% OR 5% AND GOVT GIVES YOU 3.5% to 4% return instead of current 2.5%, your mortgage rate is certainly going to rise higher too.

If your mortgage is bigger than your savings, a higher interest rate return environment is GONNA KILL YOU OFF FINANCIALLY.

GREED WITHOUT COMPREHENSION IS VERY DANGEROUS OF AMBITION.

Can TRE editors please also make it such that readers can like or dislike articles, for example, those by Tan Kinlian?

I really find his ideas about politics in Singapore refreshing and am not ashamed to say I might have fallen in love with his penmanship – and so do many countless others, i am pretty sure – and would therefore like to do a like every time he unfailingly posts something great, as on this occasion.

Please do what and whatever you can to provide this special function, thank you forever!

@Monica; there is already such feature in TRE, but it was always “GD Star Rating – loading” after 13-15 comments. When we informed TRE, they will tell you do this do that, but never work.

Tech: For rating, you MUST enable Flash and Java in your browser, especially Chrome. As for article rating, will try to implement this feature when the website is upgraded this month. Thank you.

    Thanks for the guide.

But what I had meant was not to do with the comment posts by the fabulous readers’
    - except for that irritating pesky PAP-IBer sent here by LTA Li to give his 50 cents’ worth of nothing but shame to his master at PMS office, Clemenceau -
in response to the TRE-sanctioned articles but the articles themselves, eg. out-of-touch ones by TeeKohLian(g), etc, which I feel readers have somewhat reasonable right to indicate their likes or otherwise.

There is no such function as far as this long-time (silent) reader knows.

Can and will the TREmendous TREditors please contemplate at all offering one on the menu to satisfy our appetite, let us savor that bit more? Eternal thanks endlessly.
