Share the walkway with cyclists and PMD users

I was walking on the pathway.

There was a bicycling ring behind me. I walked to one side. A cyclist rode by and said, “thank you”.

I do not mind sharing the path with cyclist and PMD users, provided that they move slowly and give signal.

I do not want them to use the road. It can be dangerous for them. The cars drive too fast.

I do not agree with pedestrians who ask for cyclists and PMD users to be barred from using the paths.

  • No Dafts or Dogs Allowed:

Tan Kin Lian, is the pathway narrow for your profile that the cyclist can’t ignore you? Or the cyclist already recognize you? Not all pathways are wide. Anyway, what happened to those not easily visible like little children? And not all lucky like you, encountered with such a ‘considerate’ cyclist. Be more practical & wise for your age.

Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible for the opinions above, as apparently one of my dogs has learned how to type.

Mr Tan, when you kena knock down by cyclists or PMD riders, you will “cry father, cry mother”. In developed countries, pathways are intended for the use of pedestrians only. And cycling tracks are intended for cyclists. What we have is a rojak pathway for all.

I can understand people cycle for exercise (like old people collecting cardboard) but I cannot understand why there is a need for PMDs. Why do young people need to ride on a “motorised skateboard”? PMDs should travel at no more than 5 to 10 kms and intended for use by the handicapped, super seniors or people who are immobile – not for the able-bodied.

The Garmen talks about the need for people to have more exercise so as to stay fit but on the other hand they are allowing people to become lazy by riding on a “motorised skateboard”. So what’s the message – walk and get fit or ride (don’t walk) and get fat and sloppy?

Most times cyclist especially foreigners and local PDM riders do not care much and do not really slow down much. I had come across a number of incident whereby people got shocked by this kind of riders. Usually because they have been used to riding too fast that they have forgotten that when they slow down, it’s really not slow enough…

WELL,MR TKL,i hope you are telling the truth?
    and,i hope you open your eyes to see how the MAJORITY OF PMDs n cyclists are ABUSING OUR P-E D E S T R I A N WALK-ways???

if you get hurt,i am not going to feel sorry for you and those in support of SUCH A STOOPID IDEA.

BUILD THE REQUISITE INFRA-STRUCTURE LIKE ANOTHER DESIGNATED LANE FOR PMDs and cyclists and let them KNOCK EACH OTHER DOWN,I DONT CARE!!!

PMDs and cyclists on pedestrian walkways is notonly a BAD IDEA,IT IS EXTREMLEY MORONIC AND INCOSIDERATE OF WHOEVER FORMULATED N IMPLEMENT THIS IDEA.

THE MINISTER, i remeber MILK-IS-MILK as SECOND TRANSPORT MINISTER got this under-WAY?
CAN ANY OF HER IDEA BE A COMMON GOOD?

PEDESTRIAN WALKways shud be STRICTLY RESERVED FOR PEDESTRIAN OR WHEEL-CHAIR BOUND/HANDICAPPED and NOT FOR SOME SKUNKS N PUNKS WHO THINK THEY NOW HAVE THE ‘right of way’ and CAN DO WHAT THEY LIKE ON OUR NARROW WALKways?

a bad idea is still a bad idea,no matter how any daft tries to explain it away,ya?

COPY AND PASTE KIND OD IDEAS FROM OVERSEAS-SCHOOLED scholars,WIHTOUT PROPER CONSIDERATION FOR OUR LIMITED PUBLIC SPACE AND CULTURE,IS PLAIN STOOPID.

HOW CAN ANY SCHOLARS THINK FO SUCH POLICIES THAT CAN CAUSE HARM OR EVEN FATALITIES TO INNOCENT PEDESTRIANS?

SERIOUSLY,I FEEL MORE STRESSED GOING FOR WALKS THESE DAYS.
EVEN YOU SEE PMDs in SHOPPING MALLS!

    @ Mixed message

INDEED! The car owning and those relying on PHC for transports absolutely detest cyclists, PMDs congesting their “exclusive” road use.

They pretend ignorance that it is the overwhelming majority of pedestrians paid MOST OF tax to fund their freeways, expressways, road construction and use. These meanest rats prefer that cyclists/PMDs knocks over elderly, kids on congested rojak pathways WHICH MUST GET WORST AS POPULATION EXPANDS.

CAR-LITE LTA IS POLITICALLY-FLAVOURED OF ITS POLICY CONSTRUCTION.

  • can talk more calmly:

//I do not agree with pedestrians who ask for cyclists and PMD users to be barred from using the paths.//

aiyoh. tell that who those serious victims (e.g some even death ?) kenna kissed by PMDs lor ?? when one does not get seriously kenna contacted (or injured), of course can talk more calmly lar ?

paths were originally made (sinkie land, no space right ?) for only walking (or jogging) pedestrian but then some wise guy decided to make it lawful to add in bicycles in some estate and now PMDs (with much faster speed) want to join in the fun (many more now coming from the home-food-delivery sector rushing for time (hence faster speed)) in a more squeezy paths and a more crowded 5.5m or (going 6.9m or 10m) open-leg sinkie land ?

  • KL, use your cow sense. How big is a four foot pathway? Your shoulders already 2 feet if not more leaving another 2 foot or less for the Cyclists or PMDs to squeeze through? Or you are so considerate each time, eyes front and back giving way to cyclist/pmds? They should not be allowed on 4 foot pedestrian pathways. Period

  • a PG:

You say that you do not want PMD riders on the road because it is dangerous for them. Have you done a survey to show how many pedestrians dislike PMDS on walkways ? You are so thotful of them not riding on the roads, have you thot about how dangerous PMDS are to the the pedestrians, esp, the weak seniors, and our young kids ? Gone were the days when we could walk safely, casually and leisurely without worries. Then, why do we called them walkways for?
