Public healthcare system corrupted by greed, overhaul needed

TOC article “Phillip Ang: “Public healthcare subsidies are mostly non-existent” in Singapore” has generated a bit of public interest.

Many readers have given similar personal examples of non-existent subsidies.

Thanks to PAP propaganda, the quantum of subsidies have been inflated to ridiculous levels.  Since actual public healthcare (PH) costs are in fact lower than private GP rates – it has to be, Singaporeans are in fact subsidising the government, enriching GLCs and their senior management.

Besides paying higher than GP rates, PH patients lose valuable time between unnecessary appointments and incur additional transportation costs.

With reference to my recent experience, the unsubsidised $92 specialist was too busy and saw me for only a few minutes.  Another young doctor did most of her work, using  me as the subject to instruct an intern.

While it is understandable that public healthcare system will always require such a  convenient arrangement, and I don’t have a problem with this, why should I be charged unsubsidised rate of $92 when, clearly, I did not receive $92 worth of service?

In attempting to confuse the public, likely PAP IBs on FB said I was comparing apples to D24 durians.  But the facts are clear: no test was done and the specialist’s diagnosis was similar to my GP’s.

Healthcare subsidies have all along been as fake as our ‘Malay’ president, non existent.  It is common sense that polyclinic consultation fee should never be double private GP rates.

Higher costs result in higher MediShield Life premiums, a drain on our Medisave.

By inflating costs, PAP is then able to justify the transfer billions in tax dollars in the form of non-existent subsidies to public healthcare institutions, not patients.  Who are the actual beneficiaries when this helps to improve the bottom line?

How many cannot-be-disclosed vendors of PH institutions re PAP-linked?

PAP’s healthcare system has been corrupted by greed.  This will be clear when MOH Holdings’ is forced to open its books, after PAP joins BN.

Back in the 2000s, many of our leaders (who are often so big headed and so full of themselves) embarked on a long and pervasive emulation of everything free market and imported from the US.

So after a number of years, all those Govt and semi-Govt agencies jumped on the bandwagon and money and profit became a cancerous growth in so many ways in Singapore, in the same way it infected so many aspects of the US.

Fortunately, many parrot leaders here woke up from their fantasies and are reversing course. They should not, for even one minute, think they are so superior. If they mismanage like those rotten pirate political and business leaders in charge of HK for so many years, the consequences here will be much more dire.

The US has its strengths, no doubt. But it had lost its compass a long time back. Business has become unbelievably selfish and itself has become a cancer on society. And politicians there continue to accept lobby funds (which they always claim isn’t corruption), and dance to the rotten tune of big Tech. Politicians are in it for themselves and have long lost their backbone and principles.

It is a dismal state of affairs. There is no political leadership anywhere.

  • Harder Truths:

Healthcare is just another of the scams used to empty the pcckets of locals. Or else get them to take a loan fro ma bank – either way the government wins.

Just look around and find ONE item that $G locals can get from the government that is not a business transaction based on their profit and our loss.

Slaves do not need to own anything. They are meant to serve unconditionally.

Subsidies & fees in Public Health [PH] system aren’t representative nor are consistent with market pricing mechanism from the private GP medical sector.
S’pore PH system had been configured as Corporate Medicine ie. for profit basis. But for political reasons (vote buying, populist policy) & for eternal gratefulness from older citizens (PG/MG) who think that PAP thinks for them, the subsidy system had been created as a obsfucation & diversion mechanism. But the PH medical cost is initially jacked up high enough then offsetted by “generous” govt subsidy. Then the balance is being paid through Medisave which takes the pain away from the user not having to settle in cash. But the user is no closer to understanding their true medical costs. It is a convoluted method of Accounting Treatment by the MIWs.
This overinflates govt accounting revenues under medical services which also boosts GDP growth numbers. Hit KPI targets, see what happens next?
Also, don’t forget that you’re seeing multiple & anonymous doctors over a lifetime of medical consultation at the Polyclinic and not a single medical practitioner who is intimately aware of your medical conditions & your medical history. You’re nothing but a medical guinea pig to the system. Medical data on patients to Pharmaceutical companies are a valuable information resource. Why do you think that you go for a battery of tests prescribed by the [PH] Polyclinic doctors but the doctors don’t even explained unless you prod them for test results & explanations. Most of the time, they think you a fool if you keep quiet!
Also the Polyclinic like to prescribe mostly generic drugs made from India & other cheap manufacturers. There had been lots of recalls in the past on Indian generic drugs due to hygiene & contamination factors.
And the polyclinic like to prescribe a lot of medication to patients. A number of generic drugs they prescribed were old [& cheap) drugs having gone out of patent protection instead of new ones which were newly introduced.
The Congested Polyclinics with long waiting times were like a conveyor belt mechanism using fresh medical graduates (houseman) or 3rd world doctors (working to get medical equivalency) – each doctor have to see a quota of patients every day (maximizing revenues & reducing doctor’s costs by high turnover of patients). Serious medical cases have to have a referral letter from a polyclinic doctor to get Public Hospitalisation rates & admittance, appointment ddates from govt hospitals.

From here you can see how much money the Ministry of Health generates from the citizens & unwitting foreigners from Polyclinics [PH system]. Public Health Medicine were big business for the govt ie. why private practitioners (GPs) are having a tough time competing.
But the trade-off for Corporate Medicine are between volume business vs. quality of care. For profit is about the quantity [of patients] over quality [attention & due diligence]! Things falling between 2 chairs because of the urgent need to make money & quickly ie. Quality of Care often absent from the system resulting in misdiagnosis, wrong treatments, failure to detect problems, etc.
Understand this, one can navigate the treacherous water of Corporate Medicine! The PH system doesn’t work for you, you’re just a digit!

like all things pap, only lies, more lies, and more more lies.

INDIAN is malay also can. INSIDE 200m is not within 200m also can.

    what is the solution?

as Singapore is not pap owned, it is very easy. just topple pap.

like Dr Mahatir PH toppled najib UMNO, Dr Tan CB PSP toppling clown pap has many benefits.

1st benefit is the investigation of every pap S$m member source of wealth.

2nd benefit is the investigation of T-shirt contracts by pap PA to its clan of preferred contractors.

3rd benefit is the investigation of the selection of an INDIAN as malay milo president.

the list of benefits is very long. but as long as each benefit deals with investigation of clown pap S$m clan members, very satisfactory.

In an ageing population that is exacerbated by earlier joblessness,IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT OUR GAHMEN ENSURE THAT HEALTHCARE COSTS ARE KEPT FROM ESCALATING IRRATIONALLY AS HAS BEEN THE CASE PAST DECADE.

Those sgs who lose their jobs oso lose their medical benefits n have to foot their own medical bills for themselves n their families including elderly parents.

It is not irresponsible for the govt to allow healthcare costs to rise at such rate n in such manner. It shows a huge extent of INCONSIDERATION FOR THE PEOPLE.

HEALTHCARE COSTS MUST BE CHECKED N BALANCED.

Straits Times: Singapore Together: Redefining the national conversation

The best way to “redefine” the national conversation is to put more Opposition MPs in Parliament so they can ask tough questions and demand answers. Outside this, any “conversation” with PAP is useless and a waste of time because it would be monologue full of spin and “fake news”.
