Freedom of speech

This is hypothetical.

Joe Biden is now the president of United States.

There is now a big demonstration in Washington in the vicinity of the seat of Congress. The demonstrators call for a change to the US constitution. They want to get rid of the gridlock that is paralyzing the nation. They want the urgent social and economic problems to be addressed.

The demonstrators became violent. They started to riot, loot and damage public and private property.

The authority suspected that the demonstrators are being funded by an unfriendly foreign power that seek to weaken the United States.

What should Joe Biden do?

Should he respect the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression?

Is it time for him to call in the state law enforcement agencies. Should he call in the National Guard?

What is a leading politician in another country describe it as “a beautiful sight to behold” ?

Here is my answer.

There is a line between freedom of speech and behavior that threatens the security, law and order or challenges the constitution of a country.

Joe Biden has to call in the law enforcement agencies.

The leaders of any country has to take similar action to protect the integrity of the country. This right is not confined to the United States alone.

WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH, dissents do NOT have to or prefer to engage in VIOLENT STRIVING FOR CHANGE.

This phenomena is called “positionality” in financial market.

THIS ARTICLE WRITE-UP IS CALLED STUPIDITY BEYOND INFINITY.

Was the fairytale written by a 5-yr old todler or a 4-yr old todler?

Before posting did you check the definition of “dictatorship”?

Here it is: A dictatorship is a form of government characterized by a single leader or group of leaders and little or no toleration for political pluralism or independent media.

Does PAP tolerate political pluralism? Didn’t PM LHL say he will try to “fix” the opposition instead of doing his job? Do you know the number of those who opposed/criticize PAP that have been bankrupted? If Singapore is ranked 160 out of 180 in terms of freedom of the press, does Singapore have an “independent media”? Is there free speech in Singapore? If there is then why is there a need for Speaker’s Corner? Moreover, why is prior police approval is needed to use it?

Singapore does not have basic freedoms and a free press. Moreover, the PAP-run government is not open and transparent. Therefore there is no real accountability and elections are not free and fair.

Elections in Singapore is a farce. Same goes for the Singapore Constitution because it refers to Singapore as a “democracy”.

Singapore is indeed a dictatorship. It is an “expensive” North Korea – call it North Korea Lite.

Still not convinced. Ask your parents and/or unemployed friends who lost their job to a foreigner to explain it to you.

TKL, could you elaborate on this? Which foreign power? We know most Americans are peace and freedom loving people. It’s natural for American people to stand up to the conspiracies that were set up against them. Do you really think there is unfriendly foreign power behind all these?

once you solve people’s stomach (& meaningful living wage ??), then the behavior to “threatens the security, law and order” will be greatly minimized (if not totally minimized ??) ???

People who are very desperate will do all sorts of crazy things (as they have nothing to lose OR so they think ??? ) ??? They are unlikely to appreciate law and order (on a theoretical basis) if the law and order within their stomach & mind is already messed up (on a practical basis) ???

    Mr. Tan,

I am glad you never go to be President. I am glad you never went into politics in Singapore. You seem very hung up on the Communist system. All systems are good if it takes care of the people. The people decide what systems are good. What is good for China, or Norway or the US or whatever. They can only decide if they have the facts and a voice. Admittedly you must also have a voice but enough already about Chinese communism. We get what you think even if we don’t agree. Move on.

Freedom of speech is important. Like the recent debate of FTA and foreign worker issues, parliament limit time and allow more PAP members to speak up on the issues, freedom of speech for oppositions and nationalist is limited. The television media did not give equal time for opposition to speak up matters concerning foreign worker issue and CECA. We see that Dr Tan Cheng Bock not given the chance to speak on television on CECA. Freedom of speech is limited as these people who are the other side of the view is not given the chance to speak up. The lack of freedom of speech causes many Singaporeans to have access to PAP pro-foreigner speech and not the other side, pro Singaporean view on television. The lack of information result in biased judgement and can ultimately result in PAP winning of election. Freedom of speech is limited when the access to television broadcast or free press is limited. Our World Press Freedom Index is 160, bottom 20, when you speak, many people cannot hear you speak. Isn’t this the same as very little freedom of speech? Because if you are allow to only talking to yourself or small number of people, it is almost the same you are not allow to speak.

xoxo: Is there really a problem with RACISM here as compared to Malaysia,Australia, even USA?

which is contrasting of this fairytale hypothetical.

TKL:The demonstrators call for a change to the US constitution

This mindset is exactly exemplify by a mind of trapped bird rattled in a cage whilst the country continue to rot in a vandalised/flawed constitution.

    I will explain here.

Before the Australian landmark High Court decision, aboriginals, the original inhabitants has NO LAND RIGHTS in common law, the Crown (meaning pre-colonial days) has every piece and grains of soil.

Wikipedia:Mabo v Queensland (No 2) (commonly known as Mabo) is a decision of the High Court of Australia.[1] It is a landmark case, brought by Eddie Mabo against the State of Queensland.

The case is notable for recognising the pre-colonial land interests of Indigenous Australians within Australia’s common law. Prior to Mabo, the pre-colonial property rights of Indigenous Australians were not recognised at common law.

‘Mabo’ is of great legal, historical, and political importance to Indigenous Australians. It overturned the doctrine of ‘terra nullius’, which had previously been applied by colonial courts to dismiss Indigenous claims.

The Prime Minister Paul Keating praised the decision, saying it “establishes a fundamental truth, and lays the basis for justice”. Conversely, the decision was criticised by conservative commentators.

Native title doctrine was eventually codified in statute by the Keating Government in the Native Title Act 1993. This recognition enabled further litigation for indigenous land rights

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabo_v_Queensland_(No_2)

Eddie Mabo, an aboriginal gardener working in the University of Newcastle – fought Queensland – UNREPRESENTED of any legal expertise help AND GOT NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – single-handed fought his “peasants’ right from the state court to Federal Court and all the way to the High Court of Australia – all with his intelligent mouth and a JUDICIARY PATIENTLY HEARING HIM OUT in democratic rule tradition. No entity is above and beyond the rule of law.

HE WON defeating the law embedded in the Australian Constitution.

It is democracy real (not reel) life and shaken the planet. Natives in NZ, Canada saw big concession of aboriginal land rights since.

This is what I call liberal democracy – nothing of established legal precepts and law is beyond challenge – in and out of the courtroom.

NEVER TRUST THE MOUTH of a dictatorship or its stooges hiding in closet of self-acclaimed divine virtue.

IT IS A BIG FIACKING LIE.

Dictatorship has its agenda, narrative and calculus to achieve both – exclusively its own only, naturally – imposing its hijacked/vested authority and illegitimate power over all peasants.

Dictatorial rule is easiest to govern – tells ALL LIES in authority command and if it still does not work, apply unlimited force utilising all oppressive power force.

Why it works for short brevity of history even if the country must eventually crumble in sudden death collapse – since the last century, NOT A SINGLE DICTATORSHIP SUCCEED AND PROSPER, from Stalin to Causescu to Idi Amin to Fidel Castro to Mubarak to Pahlavi to Pol Pot to Pinochet to Kim dynasty?

    Very simple.

Here is the answer from Eric Hofer

“Propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves.”

Before Eddie Mabo, even the best of legal eagle in constitutional law, ALL GOT DECEIVED thinking his chance of success in law merit must be NEGATIVE INFINITY.

The High Court of Australia has got judges that listens to no political cows in Canberra nor the legal big wigs in Sydney’s Martin Place or Melbourne’s Collin street. The High Court of Australia has a mind of its own and follow the law of unanticipated consequences of their rightful decision.

HOW CAN THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS (aborginals) HAS NO LAND RIGHTS in common law BUT THE COLONIAL INVADERS, who arrived later/after aboriginal inhabitation and slaughtered, GOT ALL LAND RIGHTS?

The legal wrongs of the past is not inviolable virtues forever to sustain in inequitable “law”.

    @ Xoxo

WITH THESE FEW WORDS, Judge Mathew Byrne Jr, in 1973, threw out the Government’s prosecution case against Daniel Ellsberg for leaking the Pentagon Papers on the Vietnam war.

Judge William Mathew Byrne Jr:The totality of the circumstances of this case, which I have only briefly sketched, offend a sense of justice, the bizarre events have incurably infected the prosecution of this case.

William Matthew Byrne Jr., 75; U.S. Judge Presided Over Trial of Pentagon Papers’ Daniel Ellsberg

    https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2006-jan-14-me-byrne14-story.html

Byrne declared a mistrial, on May 11, 1973. The courtroom erupted in cheers and applause as Ellsberg was freed,

How many seconds did it took for Judge Byrne in USA to “evident” democracy’s rule of the law?

I did say less than 45 seconds in total from hearing commencement. What say you?

Never mind that titanic judgment caused a political earthquake in Washington – it is good to wake up the political cows sleeping in cozy comfort of self-delusion of “we are or at least imagined that we the authority, THE LAW AND THE POWER BUNDLED INTO ONE.”

It is a disgrace – “though at somewhat faster” speed than how fast President Richard Nixon resigned from the highest office of the land to avoid criminal prosecution on his failed cover-up of the Watergate affairs.

Donald Trump is now under investigation of his private financial affairs (whilst he was in the highest office) now that he is out of Presidential office.

Who knows he (among former trusted lieutenants) will throw under the bus or who among these former loyalists threw him under the bus instead – beside Stormy Daniels (who claimed publicly that Trump’s toy couldn’t keep awake for a minute in “salute”)

This is true liberal democracy at work.

COLLECTIVE STUPIDITY HAS NO LIMIT – even the most myopic credible historian will confess to this – DICTATORSHIP WILL PREVAIL by brute force of iron-fist rule, then followed by SUDDEN DEATH COLLAPSE.

Just take a look at a few obvious example – the Berlin Wall collapse alongside the former Stalin’s Soviet Union WITHOUT WAR and open rebellion from peasants in Russia. It fell on its own weight of corruption, abuse of power, incoherent and dilapidated architecture of power domination totally unresponsive to changes and challenges in the outside world.

In other words, dictatorship is totally incapable of adaptation and environmental changes sweeping in. Its starts with a ripple of internal dissent, then the tide followed by a tsunami totally unexpected and sweep them out to the tumultuous sea and drowned.

Look closer home, the fall of Suharto’s regime – it is classic history and economic lesson to learn or refused to learn for those stubborn and stupid beyond infinity.

Take a look at this video when Indonesia crawled on all four like a puppy for IMF bailout of US$40 billion during the Asian currency crisis.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pxv4_I7Pio

and the readers’ comments including this one (folded arm across the chest)

Ahmad Syah :The imf guy had a very arrogant gesture

    and another @ Grappling Spirit

“The guys are laughing in a middle of a crazy financial crisis that not long after put Suharto out”

The bankruptcy ending of dictatorship has this lesson from Ernest Hemingway, Nobel Prize winner in literature. It reads

Creator: Ernest Hemingway, U.S. author, winner of Nobel Prize in Literature

Context: The character Mike Campbell in the 1926 novel “The Sun Also Rises” was asked about his money troubles and responded with a vivid description embracing self-contradiction: 1

“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.

“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”

“How Did You Go Bankrupt?” “Two Ways. Gradually and Then Suddenly.”

    https://quoteinvestigator.com/2018/08/06/bankrupt/

DICTATORSHIP AND BANKRUPTCY WALKS HAND-IN-HAND in history and economics.

    Why?

Because dictatorship HAS NO STRUCTURE OR INSTITUTIONS in place nor challenges from within to instigate change. That is to say – IT IS A BEHEMOTH sustained by violent force until SUDDEN DEATH COLLAPSE BECAUSE IT IS INCAPABLE OF RENEWAL AND CHANGES FROM WITHIN.

Those who decry freedom of speech are either corrupt, self-seeking absorption or stupid beyond infinity or all of these.

They are like walking corpses you picked up from a graveyard in a quiet cemetery.

DON’T GRAB THEM AND TRY TO TALK SANITY OR LOGIC TO THEM. They either falling back into the burial ground or staring at bankruptcy door soon. They need company, let that companionship is not you.

THAT IS UNTIL POO YI DEGRADED CHINESE HISTORY as its last emporor, totally manipulated and humiliated by the Japanese overlord.

POO YI was like a blank piece of paper – the Japanese minders painted whatever picture they like of him and the shame of Chinese history.
