Freedom in China

This presenter explains that there is a wide degree of freedom in China. [LINK]

The ordinary people are free to live their life, choose where to work and to move about freely in the country and to travel overseas. They enjoy a sense of security and are not afraid of being attacked or intimidated.

They are also free to migrate to another country, provided that the host country welcomes them.

They are, however, not free to engage in unlawful assembly and demonstrations that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

However, they have many avenues to voice their grievances and have them addressed by the government.

They are also free to participate in politics. If they are interested, they can join the Communist Party. To be accepted as a member, they have to pledge loyalty to the country, to the constitution, to the party and to serve the people at large.

The party members select the leaders at the local level. The elected leaders at each level elect the leaders at the next higher level.

This is a better system of electing leaders. It is democratic and meritocratic. It is not a perfect system, but it is better than the system adopted in many liberal democracies.

In the liberal democracies, all citizens have the right to vote for the people to be in government. However, in many situations, the wrong types of leaders are voted into power.

I agree that there is a high degree of freedom in China.

    semi-detached two storey

    farmland
    Practically freehold

You are fxxking no shame when you said that.
Anyone with basic knowledge of CN living know what is call 户籍 (Resi status). That affects your rights to live in the particular area. Legally, it affects the rights to medical care, social support, schooling of kids, even impact one’s considerations to get married with the guy or gal if getting the local RS is challenging.
Numberous time, the requirement of RS had created social tragedies and had been one of the key factor in generating crimes and corruptions.

Freedom? TKL, with the monies you have, you should get yourself a (or more) 18 year old mei-mei and stay in CN as a king.

Tech: Ah the following, I absolutely agree.

TKL, with the monies you have, you should get yourself a (or more) 18 year old mei-mei and stay in CN as a king.

On the “Resi status” thingy, you are not too wrong but still wrong. In the past, it does affect one in everything that you have mentioned (below), but now not so much anymore.

That affects your rights to live in the particular area. Legally, it affects the rights to medical care, social support, schooling of kids, even impact one’s considerations to get married with the guy or gal if getting the local RS is challenging.

It is now easy to change Resi status once one starts living and is gainfully employed in another city. My wife (with a village Resi status) can seek treatment in ShangHai or ShenZhen and she would still be able to use her medical insurance. She can get a passport in ShangHai or ShenZhen, no need to return to the village local police kiosk to get one. My niece’s Resi status is in the village where she was born, but she is studying in the city, while both her parents are still holding the village’s Resi status.

The only exception to what I have said above is applicable only to those who are “judgment debtors” or have been “blacklisted” by the central credit agency. But then, that has nothing to do with one’s Resi status.

What you have said happened before Xi’s time. Like many have said on TRE, China has changed a lot under Xi and people’s lives are getting better and more taken care of.

Maybe it is time you re-visit China again to get yourself updated and upgraded instead of parroting the supposed ‘truth’ that your this source in China, who purportedly have Xi on his/her speed dial is bull-shitting.

Tech: Unlike the PAPies who never say “sorry”, the authorities in China admitted their mistakes in the handling of the good doctor and his colleagues and they apologised. He is 6-feet underground because he contracted the C19 while he was saving lives in Wuhan, not like what our ‘learned’ Mike on TRE who would like you to believe, that he was sent to the firing squad. A little late and cosmetic maybe, but the good doctor is officially a national hero, and do you know what kind of treatment the hero’s family members get?

If you ask me, IMHPO, the authorities in Wuhan were actually not trying to hide the truth about the C19 when the pandemic started. They thought that what the good doctor said then was not the truth and they wanted to avoid mass panic, which is why they merely “warned” him and his colleagues.

Let’s face it, it was something new and the authorities were clueless and would have thought it would not blow into a pandemic. However, when it did and they realised that the good doctor was nto wrong, they swiftly apologised and retracted his and his colleagues’ “warning”.

I am sure that the PAPies would have done the same.

For someone who has not stayed in China for long and is not currently in China, you sure must be very blessed to have the ability to ‘know and see’ all the happenings in China. Let me guess, you “heard” from your sources in China who happens to have Xi on his speed dial?

    1. Do you know why the damn water has to be released and why the change in schedule? BS on the “quietly” thingy because the army already made a nationwide announcement on the 1st day of the flooding that there is a 20-meter crack and the damn may fail any minute. Did you know that the army, fire-fighters and medical teams from other provinces were deployed to try to uphold the damn and attend to the injured, why so silent on this or your source forgot to tell you that? Selective commenting?

    2. The death figures were updated (as and when available) to over 30+, so another BS on the alleged social media “coverup”. There is an hourly CCTV coverage on national TV about the condition in Henan, your this source forgot to mention that to you again? In case your this source is ignorant, here’s the link to CCTV: https://www.cctv.com/.

    3. As for the submerged MRT, the videos were causing unnecessary panic and worry for the residents and the content was too gross, so they were taken down. Imagine posting videos of people drowning in the MRT, how would the young viewers feel? Besides, it is not as if the local authorities did not get the message and pretended as if nothing has happened. Help was almost immediate and all of them got off the MRT safely, with some not too serious casualties. What more do you want?

Why not tell your local MSM to post the photo of the poor RVHS student who was supposedly axed in the toilet? Get my point?

Anyway, should the readers trust your extremely biased hearsay or one of my relatives who happens to be residing in HeNan when the ponding started?

Please don’t cook things out of the air just to get involved in an argument. It’s damned childish and reflects badly on yourself. A responsible person would hear both sides of a story before arriving at a conclusion, that does not seem to be the case for you. Now I finally know why Sinkie gahment needs POFMA, it’s for people like you. lol

Oh btw, before you start accusing China of anything, make sure that your own backyard is specky clean. Dare you tell me that the Sinkie gahment no do such things?

Response: Great and insightful comments. For donkey years and even in the present day, quite a lot of SinKaporean have forgotten or have chosen to IGNORE the almost 200 years of HUMILIATION China had to undergo under the blady Western powers such as USA and UK and to a certain extent, the Japanese! This dire situation was made POSSIBLE because of the rise of Western Powers(USA, UK, Spain, France, Germany, etc)and of course the very WEAK Opium-Infested Qing and Last Dynasty. It took decades of DETERMINATION and HARD WORK by MOST of the SUFFERING Chinese folks to COME TOGETHER and RISE UP AGAIN! What we WITNESS China TODAY is NOT the China of yesteryears.

Can’t really BLAME SinKaporean having such a One-sided and outdated VIEW about China. To be very FRANK, for donkey years till Pre-Covid 19, HOW MANY SinKaporean who can afford their ANNUAL overseas Holiday trip, have CHOSEN to VISIT China. Most will be making a BEELINE for destination like USA, Europe, South Korea, Japan, Australia HK, Taiwan! Only a handful will visit China and Timbuktu, period! The ADVERSE image and stories PAINTED by the Western and Our Local Media about China have turned off a lot of folks planing for their annual overseas holiday trips. This is also one of the MAIN REASON why Mai Hum and Wifey Holee Jinx have CHOSEN NOT to APPROVE the use of Chinese vaccine, Sinovac until last month, even though the stock has been here since Feb 2021 by giving Crap and BS excuse that the Chinese has NOT PROVIDED SUFFICIENT DATA TO JUSTIFY GIVING APPROVAL. Studying in city school (such as Shanghai) also does not mean you have a 户籍 of that place, even working. You may go get more details before you try to twist it to show your half baked info on this.

A number of uni grads which comes from the country side have special ‘temporary 户籍’ in those metropolitan cities and it takes sometime to get the proper 户籍 of that place. And if they cannot find jobs, they are considered ‘illegals’ and those from country side going into cities to make a living, mostly on jobs that city dwellers will not do are also known as ‘低端人口’ lower-end population. These people are usually used and discard, their kids not able to study in the city schools.

And so Mr Tan Kim Lian would, if a citizen of China, apply to join the CCP. If rejected, that’s that. Just be an outcast, or cast into prison, even killed, depending on reasons for his rejection. No appeal beyond CCP. If accepted, then he would “freely” participate within whatever semblance of democratic freedoms he claims to exist within the party, but willing to accept a leader for life there even should he come to want a change. Unfortunately for Mr Tan, he happens to be only citizen of Singapore, where he must think PAP not ideal unlike CCP, for he has not applied to join the party in order to contribute his views from within but instead uses this public forum to sometimes oppose policies, a thing which would not be as tolerated by the CCP should he as citizen in China come to hold similar views.

Now you want me to reveal my source’s email to you so that you can have him tracked down? Or just to innocently shut you up? Nah, you can continue your CCP promotion, as long as i felt is BS, i will kept peeling you down.

P/s: Temporary 户籍 is what i called it (not my source) as i cannot remember the exact terminology it was called. I did not know that i will ever raise such topic here to entertain TKL’s freedom of China under CCP regime, and youself, the Techie.

Now, since you are arguing the exact terminology, now i could not even be sure that it is “暂主证” that i am referring to since you said its a past tense! Lol. But it does not remove the fact that ‘permit’ is still required to stay in certain cities. The way it function is like SG or any country’s permanent residence, the only difference is CCP issue temporary residency to non-residence in cities for CN citizens (perhaps for foreigners too)

Sounds complicated? Lol. E.g. my ic address is Tampines, i can go Tiong Baru to shopping, buy bubble tea or date my xiao-san. But if i need to study, work in Tiong Baru for 2 years and need to stay there, i need the ‘residence pass’ to do so legally. Lol… why need that? Techie, you can’t answer right? Freedom? :DDD

Of coz, if Techie you want to argue, your tiny kampung might not included for restrictions because the population size just does not qualify! Lol

    TRE Techie:
Tech again: Mike, I don’t want to have to spoonfeed you on everything. It is abolished, period. There is also no such thing as “临时户籍”, did your source in China cooked this up? Tell you what, get this rouce of yours to email me a copy of the “临时户籍” and I will shut up for good on everything China, can? lol

Tech: Mike, to answer all your questions, I would have to spend some time giving you a crash course on China. Why should I do that when you know how to access the internet and use Google?

I am better off spending my time playing with my current hobby, the PAPPY thingy. Shoo… go play somewhere else. :)

But perhaps, I can entertain you on one aspect of your comment whereby you claimed:

“But it does not remove the fact that ‘permit’ is still required to stay in certain cities. The way it function is like SG or any country’s permanent residence, the only difference is CCP issue temporary residency to non-residence in cities for CN citizens (perhaps for foreigners too).”

A “permit” is indeed required for ALL foreigners to stay in ALL cities, but it is not an issued permit per se, merely that you have to report to the police EVERY TIME you intend to reside in a city. The exceptions are when you stay in hotels and registered guest houses. So you are partially right in this aspect where foreigners are concerned.

However, for locals (i.e. ordinary citizens), there is ABSOLUTE no need for any permit to be issued for them to stay in ANY city, only exceptions are those that are black-listed by the credit agency, judgment debtors and those under police supervision who have to seek permission whenever leaving their resident city.

Regardless of whatever terminology you may choose to use to coin your supposed “residential status” restrictions, it DOES NOT exists and citizens are free to play, study and work in ANY city that they want, even in XinJiang or Tibet.

another moronic writing from Tan KL.

CCP impose the hu ji system in China that restricted the freedom of movement in China. If you are not from that hu ji, you don’t have access to the healthcare from the city you moved to.

Next, if you are a child born out of wedlock in China, you don’t have hu ji and you can’t travel on high speed trains.

Freedom of movement in China? My ass.

Tech: Not entirely true. Their residential status thingy was abolished in (I think) 2003 way before Xi came to power. What you said happened in the past, decades ago, there are currently no such restrictions.

Also, Wedlock or no wedlock, any parents can register their new born. As to why I know this, I have a Sinkie 老乡 as my neighbor who has been with this mistress of his for more than a decade, NOT LEGALLY MARRIED. His mistress is a divorcee and she recently (before C19) gave birth to his son. It was I, me and myself who drove them to the city’s 公安局 to register their child and it was done within hours. The new born will not have an identity card until he reaches 12 years of age and has to travel with the mother via 户籍本 for planes and trains. The child cannot travel with the father because Sinkies cannot be registered in their local 户籍本. Officially, despite the hospital records the Sinkie being the father, the child officially belongs to the mistress, i.e. mother.

So again I say, China has changed a lot under the leadership of Xi for the better, those with outdated knowledge of China should grab the opportunity to visit the country and upgrade themselves.

Once you have lived in a 2nd-tier city for some time, you may not want to return to Sinkieland, ever. Reason why I do not recommend 1st-tier cities like ShangHai and Beijing is cause they are just like Sinkieland, traffic jams, fast paced living, everything also hectic, not forgetting cost of living also high, hence not a good choice for retiring persons.

I spent 5 years in ShenZhen, then another 2 in GuangZhou and finally settled in Hubei. China is HUGE and whenever you feel like going for a holiday, you will be spoilt for choices, just hop into your car and drive. All you need is a handphone and a healthy bank account.

    @ Trust only myself

Really? The drama is still ongoing. The forced vaccination could be all walking dead and final death toll (success/failure count???) is yet to be counted when the final curtain is closed.

Trust only myself: The communist system with social characteristics is better than most democratic systems as can be seen from their handling of the pandemic……….

The success/failure of pandemic containment depends on three things

    - the virus mutation still on-going
    - the vaccine still evolving with lop-sided “breakthrough” infection despite double jabs and the future consequences still evolving in early stage
    - the population’s varying immune response

Don’t count the chicken before the eggs are hatched. If communist regime of forcible handling works of immunity cultivation, how come China dare not opens its borders to the world?

The reality is that vaccinated might be walking dead – not even stalling re-infection of “breakthrough” infection post double jabs. But inside these walking dead, maybe (my guessing only) struggling to fight back the mutating virus and many were already defeated (3/4 of Jurong Fishing Port/KTVs cluster is double vaccinated as example), others waiting for the final sudden implosion and death BECAUSE the vaccine injected cultivate its own fertile field of re-infection within the vaccinated (walking dead).

    S. Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia has very low vaccinated rate compared to israel, Chile and China, is their death rate any higher in proportional term?

The forced lockdown in Wuhan is also enforced globally. China’s got it right of that direction – same as the rest of the world that follows. Had that failed, IT WOULDN’T SURPRISE ME ONE BIT if China sacrificed over 60 million of its citizenry BY BRUTE FORCED using the MILITARY ENFORCE quarantine in Wuhan and its surrounding mostly to starvation death. Let them all die or most die until and unless their body immune system fight back successfully on its own for the rest. THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF CHOICE for Wuhanese.

CHINA SENT TANKS TO RUN OVER UNARMED STUDENTS on June 4, 1989. It does not prick its humanity conscience to save the power hierarchy. Sacrificing 60 million people is less than 5% of its population base. It is “cheap” in brutal dictatorial regime.

    As for this

Trust only myself: Why talk about removing Xi when free people elected Trump and is their country in better shape?

Trump got tossed out by the same voters. At the end of body count, America with huge unvaccinated might end up with highest survival rate in allowing human body immunity fight over use of deadly vaccines.

To be honest. Very few China Chinese think badly of its government. Like PAP supporters, they are driven by security and economic progress, no doubt , all these a legacy of China’s historical chaos, famines and perpetual corruption.

When China was among the ancient premier powers, when trade was in its infancy, when transportation was using two legs or four legs, a large swathe of the population was bullied, enslaved, and not different from other empires.

Thus, lets be clear, the philosophy underpinning the May 4 movement was anti China in the sense of moving away grom culture, traditions within the feudal context. In fact, it can be argued, the students and intellectuals of that period was anti Confucian, believing it to be the intellectual framework that made China politically weak.

The ideas that started China modernization was borrowed from the West. Did it mean the students and intellectuals then were bananas? This kind of narrative is driven by chauvinists, who have nothing to do with Chineseness, they belong to a dangerous segment of US KKK, Nazi Germans and the likes.

Now, freedom is relative, Plato’s cave is a classic example of, u cannot miss what u never had. Freedom means differently to US and China, history plays a huge part.

What is missing in such arguments, is what needs to be the probable trajectory of China as it wields its might?

In particular, what is in the interest of Singapore as China emerges stronger? The domestic biz of China is not without consequences for small neighbors.

Right now, after HK debacle – the political tide is against them as part of western media exploit this HK oppression to showcase China’s dictatorial ways and convince a lot of public mind in the west that what happened in HK oppression was “indeed” also happening in Tibet and Xinjiang – ONLY MUCH WORST AWAY FROM THE GLARE OF MEDIA EYE.

Without HK as a financial centre and rule of law in commerce and industry (when judiciary is intimidated to fear of offending XJP and gang), China march into global economic dominance must inevitably slowed down.

Chinese contract law application is SHXT – I saw plenty in Shanghai. This is knowledge first hand seeing with my own eyes, not hearsay.

No wonder the West all ganged up against what they called “unfair trading rules and its abuse exploitation”.

Crushing HK by brute force is easy, but it also hurts China a lot, politically and economically, going forward.

Which is why I said, peaceful protest yes, but once it ventures into violent outbursts, rampage and destruction, then it has to be stopped and it was stopped, whether one agrees with the methods used or not.

To be fair? Why don’t you tell fairness to thousands of those Hong Kongers who were arrested by CCP and made suicided?

Therefore, your fake fairness is so righteous.
I tell you the answer, if HK protests left untouched, the CCP regime would have collapsed by now.

And your hardwork political connections in CN to be re-established.

    TRE Techie:

Tech: To be fair, the things they did in Hong Kong were questionable. Maybe if the PAPies were to be in charge, they might already have called in the army. It was indeed a difficult decision to make, if you view it in China’s perspective. There were riots all around, if left untouched, where would HK be today?

I respect one’s right to protest peacefully, but I DO NOT condone violence under any pretext and I detest violence, it should not be allowed at all.

Initially, HK had peaceful protests, I guess the authorities must have abstained from taking any hardcore action. It was only after the protests got violent that they decided enough is enough, the rest is history. I am not afraid to say I support their actions because the nonsense that the HKies are doing to the country should never be allowed. Protest peacefully all they want under existing laws but when things turned violent, the line had been crossed and enough is enough. If they had been allowed to continue with their nonsense, HK would be a ghost island by now.

No doubt some of the authorities’ actions are debatable but have you ever wondered why it was they and not some commoners on the streets that were arrested? Deny it all you want, clearly they had a part in the protest and were probably instrumental in the protests that had gone violent. If you were the authorities, would you have allowed the rampage, violence and vandalism to continue? Frankly, I would have sent in the army at the 1st sign of violence, the CCP at least waited.

And lastly, before you spill another load of BS about how HK could have caused the downfall of the CCP, I urge you to grow up. The US of A see China also lan lan, you think an island with barely 6 million people can do anything to the CCP even if the entire island were to go on a protest? Basically you cant convince staunch supporters of PAP, China or opposition, this is reflected in the arguments here.

    US?
    China?
    Singapore?

Who would prefer to live there? TKL may have so much admiration for CCP but he is not going to move there to be ruled by them. Yes he admired them but he will not choose CCP over Singapore.

TR Tech already moved to China but he may want to renounce his Singapore citizenship and moved completely. Yes in many ways China is better off in terms of taking care of its citizens. But politically, it is bigger serpent than PAPPY, as long as you are not criticising or going against it, everything looks fine in China.

    Case Study:
Recently, there is one case of a woman PLA soldier who was doing research in US and was caught not revealing her PLA connection. She hid in the Chinese embassy but at last, they caught her with suspicions that she was doing spy work for China. After months of investigation, they decided to let her go. The conclusion is that she wants to migrate to US and work there, she was afraid of her PLA connection, so she removed that from her application. So why would a woman with family still want to migrate to US so desperately leaving behind her family?

People can complain about US but still many people want to move there from China. And many Malaysian and Singaporean Chinese praise China but when probe if they want to migrate, mostly quiet.

Yes China has improved lives of their citizens just like what PAPpy did for Singaporeans. But dictatorships always dictatorship, it will decline like what we see now in Singapore. China maybe prosperous at the moment, Xi hanging on to power will ensure same downside as Singapore. The two term limit by Deng was to stop the potential decline if any of the succession screw ups, it is only limit to two terms.

As far as US is concern, it has its cons but it has more upside. Most politicians, elites still send their kids there, even Xi!!! They dont send them to NUS or NTU or QingHua.

I see people here being one sided in argument, they dont see both sides and give their views. It is always one sided and deflect here and there to arrive at their own conclusion.

Notwithstanding the truth in your claims, since you, an outsider and not even someone in China can get the 6300 supposed cases figure, then what cover-up are you talking about? Too bored, trying to get people to engage you?

Anyway, if really 6300 people had supposedly died in the flood at HeNan, do you think it is even possible to cover it up? How to cover it up, by executing all the family members of the dead or lock them up in a concentration camp and throw away the keys?

What about the dead bodies, cremate them and throw their ashes into the sea? How about the insurance companies, they should have all the data and claims on record, delete and format them and pretend nothing has happened? How about the records for the supposed 6300 deceased, from birth to study to work, instruct all the government agencies to erase them completely like they never existed?

This is an unfortunate natural disaster, regardless of how serious the casualties and damages are, the blame cannot be squarely on the authorities, why bother to even cover-up? If really died in the floods, the insurance company pays, nothing to do with the authorities, so what’s so difficult.

Just FYI, the flooding is not like a dam bursting, its a slow flood, so many would have had time to get out of the cars that they were in, its plain common sense.

Honestly, I take umbrage at you for the fact that there are millions of people currently suffering in HeNan and instead of expressing sympathy for them, you took their miseries as an opportunity to run down China. Shame on you!

If I have not said this before, let me say it now. You are such a misguided, misinformed and extremely childish dinosaur.

After seeing all these faked stuff, people should relook the faked stuff about 6/4. Julian Assange, the great global truth teller, had exposed the truth about that. There was no massacre at Tiananmen. Unfortunately, many brainwashed people still believed in the horror story that tanks rolled about 1000s of students.

TRE Techie: Notwithstanding the truth in your claims, since you, an outsider and not even someone in China can get the 6300 supposed cases figure, then what cover-up are you talking about? Too bored, trying to get people to engage you?

Anyway, if really 6300 people had supposedly died in the flood at HeNan, do you think it is even possible to cover it up? How to cover it up, by executing all the family members of the dead or lock them up in a concentration camp and throw away the keys?

Exactly. The same kind of turds never told the atrocities of Japanese to their own. Many of their young learned about that only when they traveled abroad. And Japan is a place where internet is uncensored. Yet, the amnesia is deafening.

The danger to Nazis happened after subduing whole of Western Europe. The hubris of US after beating the Soviet Union started its decline. History repeats itself ceaselessly.

Do brainwashed people read contradictory accounts?

    https://www.rt.com/op-ed/163872-china-tiananmen-square-june4/

“This week marks twenty five years since the world was told of a brutal massacre by the Chinese Peoples’ Liberation Army of “thousands” of peacefully protesting pro-democracy students in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. ”

” WikiLeaks, the website that received hundreds of thousands of pages of intercepted diplomatic correspondence from the US State Department, has released a classified diplomatic cable from then-Beijing Ambassador James Lilley to Washington dated July 12, 1989 more than four weeks after the events. In his report, Lilley writes the following shocking version of events:

OF JUNE 3-4 EVENTS ON TIANANMEN SQUARE

    1. CONFIDENTIAL – ENTIRE TEXT.

    2. SUMMARY- DURING A RECENT MEETING, A LATIN AMERICAN DIPLOMAT AND HIS WIFE PROVIDED POLOFF AN ACCOUNT OF THEIR MOVEMENTS ON JUNE 3-4 AND THEIR EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT OF EVENTS AT TIANANMEN SQUARE. ALTHOUGH THEIR ACCOUNT GENERALLY FOLLOWS THOSE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED, THEIR UNIQUE EXPERIENCES PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INSIGHT AND CORROBORATION OF EVENTS IN THE SQUARE. THEY WERE ABLE TO ENTER AND LEAVE THE SQUARE SEVERAL TIMES AND WERE NOT HARASSED BY TROOPS. REMAINING WITH STUDENTS BY THE MONUMENT TO THE PEOPLE’S HEROES UNTIL THE FINAL WITHDRAWAL, THE DIPLOMAT SAID THERE WERE NO MASS SHOOTINGS OF STUDENTS IN THE SQUARE OR AT THE MONUMENT. END SUMMARY. (Emphasis mine – WE) ”

More accounts of what really happened in this report, and also in many other reports by Western and China writers and others.

Plantsight: THEIR ACCOUNT GENERALLY FOLLOWS THOSE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED…….They said the PLA had evidently been ordered not to interfere with foreigners. They reported hearing shots and wounded students were brought to a Red Cross tent for care. Then the US Ambassador reported

    https://multimedia.scmp.com/tiananmen/

    Comprehensive account from SCMP.

“…On the afternoon of May 27, 1989, Major General Xu Qinxian made the most important decision of his life. The commander of the People’s Liberation Army’s 38th Army Group defied the order to impose martial law in Beijing. His court martial, the only documented case of a senior commander questioning the morality of the Tiananmen crackdown, led to a five-year prison sentence and house arrest.

“I told them this is not a war, this is a political incident and political incidents cannot be handled this way,” he said in an interview transcript smuggled out of his home in central China, where he is currently living under surveillance. He remembered saying: “It will be impossible to avoid clashes. It is impossible to tell good and bad apart in clashes with civilians – who will be responsible for this?”…”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/chinese-newspaper-cites-wikileaks-tiananmen-massacre-a-myth/2011/07/14/gIQAhF1MEI_blog.html

“The story also draws from a report written by The Post’s former Beijing bureau chief Jay Mathews in 2010 for the Columbia Journalism Review, entitled “The Myth of Tiananmen and the Price of a Passive Press.” In the report, Mathews also suggested that hundreds, not thousands of people died, and possibly none of them within the square.

China Daily’s story reprints in large part a story that an Australian diplomat wrote on July 1 in the Japan Times.. China Daily’s article does not mention of the hundreds of people who likely died outside the square and implies that the protests in Tiananmen were a myth altogether.

    Both articles also state:

Tiananmen remains the classic example of the shallowness and bias in most Western media reporting, and of governmental black information operations seeking to control those media. China is too important to be a victim of this nonsense.

They also state that Mathews’s report is the best “expose” of what happened.

But Mathews says his purpose for writing the report was different. “My point is that yes, the Chinese did a terrible thing in Tiananmen, but in American journalism, we have to be careful about the truth. If we as Americans want to tell the Chinese to have a free press, our own free press must be accurate……”

Ppl died, hundreds at least. Even China Generals refused to act against civilians.

In any situation, we should have all available info. But there are certain ways to analyse. PLA is and always has been positioned as the people’s army, they helped in all kinds of natural disasters.

Did they sent in the army in HK? No.

Why did they in Tianamen? In totality, the CCP had a divided leadership on this issue. Martial law was imposed to allow army to legally use any means. In this desperate situation u think the army went in to play masak masak?

The first principle of power is to APPLY power and COMPOUND it.

XJP whacked the billionaire club TOGETHER to keep them ALL IN LINE.

What freedom is left for peasants to see in this wreckage?

I am sure it is not the Chinese proverbial wisdom – kill the chicken and let the monkey watch BUT THIS TIME IT IS THE REVERSE – KILL THE MONKEYS (plural) to let the chicken (timid peasants) watch.

The writer of this comical article must be living on the different planet than the nearly 8 billion sharing this earthly reality.

Every Tycoon in China who are not towing the line of CCP have to flee China and worsen in past months.

There are plenty Chinese both in and out of China who are thoroughly brain-washed and self-radicalised by CCP constant conditioning and media manipulations.

The recent flood event in ZZ China tell us totally different story by the CCP controlled media than those private individuals. Some volunteers who return to country side to try to rescue any survivor on rubber dinghy, only to find vehicles still fully submerged in water and totally deserted township without sign of human and anything living.

It is interesting to note that despite facts from all directions, Mr TKL & Techie of TR insisted that CCP system is transparent, free and self-correcting, able to replace leadership in a honest and effectively manner. Really?

A vicious man have hundreds more supporting him. There will be retribution.
