Should Workers Party force a by-election in Sengkang GRC?

My friend said.

Politics is never “clean”, “straight-forward” and it often meant survival. In the case of WP:

1. Many want to extract the “pound of flesh” from the individual and party which is rightly so. But then if they did not call for a by-election are they doing something against the law or constitution?

In courts of law, history has shown, a capable lawyer can sometimes get a criminal clear of their charges. Should the lawyer with any decency, privy to known the truth, continue to defend the criminal?

2. Nothing in life is guaranteed. If should the absent-minded Singaporeans forget and the alternative party loses their GRC to the incumbent in the by-election, then what? It took how many decades to get a SMC let alone a GRC from the alternate party into parliament.

Are we prepared to continued to wait for another few decades? Standing on high moral grounds (what is done is not illegal) or survival?

3. Why are we so critical and demand more than a pound of flesh from rookies but we “act blur” or at most have “coffee shop grouses” when the incumbent committed so many what the public considered not correct or not right.

We demand for consistency but shouldn’t the same be demanded for the incumbent without fear too? We all may have divided opinions but let us look at the long term ramifications. Can we afford the consequences?

TKL said.

My friend said that the WP should hold on to the Sengkang GRC, rather than risk it in a by-election.
I am prepared to take the gamble. The WP may retain the seat in the by-election or may lose it.

If they retain Seng Kang GRC, it will show the following:

1. The WP has moral courage, i.e. they do not hide behind legal ambiguity of the GRC system
2. It will set a precedent for PAP to show the same courage and integrity.

If the WP loses the by-election, they can win it back again in the future. It will not take decades to win it back.

Can you vote. Do you agree that my view that WP should force a by-election for Sengkang GRC.

If I shut my fxxking mouth I’m terribly concerned that the world would be a tad stupider. You all know very well how democratic the one-party CCP is right?! Hey Mr. Vivien don’t need to mention my school please – same class as GCT ok?

tan kin lian is so cock.

if WP is fighting PSP in an election, sure, let everyone play the gentlemen game.

    ffff.

we are talking about fighting pap here. as anyone with a brain knows, pap lies cheats engages in gutter politics. THERE is absolutely no need to be gentlemen when fighting pap.

and in pap parleeementary politics, number of folks in parleeement matters most. UNTIL pap is voted out of power, don’t play gentlemen with pap. pap folks shall just call such names, such as dafts, illiterates, xia suays.

  • opposition dude:

Sylvia Lim has already mentioned that the law states that a GRC must be vactaed by all MPs before a by election can be called. So her party won’t bother to push for one since, what’s the point? The law won’t allow you to anyway.

So rather than grumble about a by election we should just look forward to the next election when PAP challenges for Sengkang. We can say that both PAP and WP did the same thing when a GRC had one less MP and whine about how it was unfair and all that.

Remember, look at the big picture. Once the next election is announced is when we will be thinking about who we should vote for. Should a good number feel that PAP hasn’t done well for this endemic pandemic or the influx of third world aliens or anything is when it will be shown in the vote counts.

There is no point in dwelling what has already happened, we change what we can when we are given the opportnity in an election.

  • Trust only myself:

    What a joke from a joker………..force a by-election?

Imagine the number of unthinking Singaporeans………even in Sengkang.

In by-election, the liars just need to introduce “another lie” (like missing TC fund in PE) and the BE is lost.

The team should continue to serve, no liars have reason to ask for BE after they themselves agreed no need for BE when the president select resign……

  • Sad situation:

Sad situation.WP should tighten its selection process.

WP should now look for a suitable candidate to replace the MP that resigned.
Let that Candidate work full time there to assist the remainder MPs as part of the training/preparation process.
WP should set up a fund to pay for the candidate monthly with contribution from the existing WP MPs.

I suggested before. Carve out the area managed by the resigned MP and hold a by-election where other oppositions will also get a chance. If WP wins the by-election, absorb it back to the GRC. If not, it becomes an SMC.

But still the best solution is to scrap the stupid GRC system because you see, one MP resigned, so troublesome. And it is because of this GRC system that people like Raheesah gets voted in.

  • No wonder:

PAP has made the town council and MPs into such a terrible mess that your idea will be hard and costly.

To carve out the area, you also need to carve the town council. That means computer work, money taken from town council, new town council people, and whatever shit that entails.

Why should WP agree to such terrible amount of work with zero benefit to the party or the residents? Political suicide.

  • If the Workers Party is serious and got the balls to ask for a report card now, then all the remaining MPs in that GRC can mass resign which would force a by-election.

But I doubt they will dare or are willing to do that.

Hahaha. By-elections? Don’t worry, there will bound to be one or two in a GRC or SMC before the next GE in 3 or 4 times time.

The PAP wants to live with Delta and Omicron with the half-past-six vaccines.

Sooner or later, the Covid-19 family of virus will hum Kar Chan-ed a few PAP GRC and SMC and then there will be a by-election galore.

Now, the PAP remains indifferent and unconcerned to the daily deaths of the people. When death becomes pervasive, it will also hit these PAP MPs and Ministers with no exception, inside and outside Parliament.

So, continue to play with the people’s live, unless the PAP ministers are foolish enough to think they have nine lives.

  • Fucked:

    WP is screwed.

Either way ( By-election or General Election) they will lose the GRC.
If the go for BE, everything is fresh in voter’s mind.. PAP will continue to play the accusation card.

If they go for GE, PAP will redraw GRC electoral boundaries. And all in Sengkang will be confused.

PAP lite party should just merge with PAP… and claim the house.

WP need not prove anything to you. Your TRE saboed the newly elected Yaw Shin Leong in 2011 resulting in the MSM reporters constantly hounding at WP and Yaw (reporters were seen waiting outside his flat) and you seem very proud of the “achievement”. WP showed their guts by expelling Yaw and forced a by-election, and still won convincingly!

No by-elections were ever called when only one of the GRC MPs resigned. So why must WP Sengkang MPs do it? Who the hell are you to challenge WP? Better look after your own health first.

Yes, you are right. I suggested this only to be fair to the remaining WP Sengkang MPs and most of all, to give dedicated oppositions like Chee SJ a chance.

You notice many anti-WP idiots now baying for their blood including the TECH? Even if PAP forced the remaining Sengkang MPs to resign to force a by-election, I dare say WP will still win, because of Jamus Lim. But PAP already learnt their lesson. Notice something? It’s been more than a year since the Courts delivered a guilty verdict of WP Aljunied MPs in the AHTC case. But there has been no follow up.
