TR EMERITUS

One would have to have logical discussions with the opposition but it is futile, especially now. They choose to be “right” in their own minds and in their own political circles. They have no use for logic or facts and that is never going to change. Well now I know what becomes of those bored, cynical, obtuse students in my classes (a minority, certainly, but an undeniable presence): they go on to become bored, cynical, obtuse posters in forums like this one. The only real difference is that they have become a little older and even more certain that their mindless observations are worth stating.

Hmmm…..if you are a pro-MIW supporter then NKS will never get your vote. Obedience is ingrained in the hardcore group. If their masters ask them to wag their tails….they wag until the tails fly off. The MIW understood this and only intend for NKS to split the Chinese votes….that’s my analysis. Of course, the majority will still go to TKL…whether that’s enough for him to win, I don’t know. But with the small percentage NKS will get, he really might embarrass himself at this age….just my thoughts, who knows.

Tech: You may be correct, but who knows till we have reached THE day? Anyway, I won’t mind telling you that at this CURRENT stage, I would vote for NG who is the least possible person to ever win the PE. Reason being Tharman is a party man, but I have not liked a single thing that Tan has done or said, I have also corresponded with Tan briefly and he comes across as someone who is not willing to listen. So instead of spoiling my vote, I would vote for Ng since he is the most harmless. lol

Given the recent scandals inside the PAP, public sentiments may work in TKL’s favor. Going by the results of last GE, if 40% votes for TKL (overly optimistic), 50% for Tharman and 10% for NKS, would TKL able to swing over 10% of would-be Tharman voters to win the race? Keep in mind also that since the last GE, PAP has added more new citizens which is to their advantage. TKL will need TCB’s support by promising him a place in the CPA if he is elected. What to you think?

Tech: You are jumping the gun. Do you honestly believe TCB would even bother with a seat on the CPA? I think talking about the who and who should be on the CPA is a complete waste of time.

A few number of people especially some from political parties are voicing their support for their respective candidates. Well, it’s good and not wrong to support someone they idolise. But is it for the right reason?

I am not a fan of the Government, however, this is not a General Election to select political parties. An elected President is apolitical and will not be able to do much changes for the people, no matter how much he promises the sky. People who hope that the President can help them oppose the Government policies and make their life better need to see the reality. This can only be done by being elected into Parliament.

In my own view, the President should be well-mannered, presentable, able to speak diligently, able to represent Singapore and it’s people on the world stage, host foreign dignitaries, and not least, unifying the people through common interest, eg, sports, celebrations, emergencies, in happiness and in sadness.

If some people thinks that the President can be there just to play local politics, to lower the cost of living, lower the HDB price, lower the price of coffee, remove the COE system, etc, then they are in the wrong place.

So, if I don’t have much choices because the PEC criteria are so stringent that good people cannot qualify (and I am referring to a lot of other people) , I will either void my vote or maybe, just maybe, choose the one that is more presentable so at least his face is not so deplorable in photos being hanged across the country.

Actually the more TKL talks ,the less people will vote for him.
He should learn what not to talk at this time….no need to speak it all at this stage when his main focus should be to maximise his chance to win the race.

By the way, NKS seem to get better by the day.
He speaks well and show a clear mind inspite of his age. His wife will be an asset to his Presidency.

He may turn out to be the better EP that Singapore need.

Terrific writing! Not a big fan of Government either, but I do think that the alternatives here are choosing between free choice to maximize your preferences rationally versus communally guided individual freedom. Neither system is very helpful. Abstracts aside, yes, choices are complex. My reaction, in general, was to apply specific ideas and to specific individuals, considering that all of our thoughts and language are bound up in collective understandings, and all our individual actions underpinned by a social framework. But I certainly don’t see much in the way of “free will” either; even the determination to “act rationally” in any given situation comes from an unconscious, feeling-based place. So in all good conscience; I think I’ll void my vote and thereof to Starbucks for my regular ‘Oat CocoMac ExpressoShot’ ;D

Even if Ng wins it won’t make any difference to PAP. If he is uncooperative during his term as president they will find ways and means to get rid of him it’s as simple as that. They had that issue when one of their own, Mr Ong, went against them and they definitely do not wish to go down that road again.

Whether Ng works with or against them remains to be seen. People are saying he is also one of them because he was from GIC but somehow Tan is anti PAP for whatever silly reason.

I don’t know about you but isn’t NTUC part of PAP too? Or does NTUC seem less “dangerous” compared to GIC because it doesn’t manage Singaporeans’ $$$ but just runs supermarkets all over the island? And let us not also forget that Tan was PAP branch secretary hor. So why no one say Tan is also a puppet but can say he is the anti PAP? Makes no sense what.

“Dog and pony show” is a colloquial term which has come to mean a highly promoted, often over-staged performance, presentation, or event designed to sway or convince opinion for political, or less often, commercial ends.

In simple terms, it serves to protect the PAP.

The criteria only looks stringent but is not as stringent as you think. They used the criteria of managing 500m. They skipped the criteria of money lost. If they had included this criteria and you have that candidate who cannot answer for 30b loss, he won’t even qualify.

Actually the wind favour TKL but he talk too much and don’t listen(Typical of Smart people).

He he, i am not new to TRE, but just new to commenting. I appreciate TRE as a good forum for absolutely open, uncensored discussion though I may disagree on some (many) points of views. but all views must be allowed. strong believer of democracy and democracy means all can say, all can vote, and whoever gets the most votes must be winner.

Tech: Thank you for admitting that you have been ‘lurking’ on TRE, we have no issue with that. As I have been saying, TRE has lots of eyeballs (visitors) but most choose not to comment. We have said many times that TRE welcome people from left, right, up, down and center camp to express their opinions as long as it is inline with our AUP. Please make yourself at home.
