Is the PAP of today exceptional, with unmatched competence and delivery? Afterall, that is their justification for the highest salaries in the world. Letโs look at its more recent track record.
Large numbers of NRIC numbers were recently unmasked, leaving Singaporeans exposed to identity theft, fraud, abuse and scams. Scammers regularly use the exposed NRIC numbers to appear credible, posing as government agents or business representatives. The PAPโs response was denial, deflection and defence, not to mention gaslighting. Later, PAP leadership sought to shift the burden to citizens (โjust changeโ logins for SingPass or other systems where NRIC is used as an authenticator), framing the occurrence as a โmiscommunicationโ between the Ministry and ACRA. Where is accountability? And what is being done going forward to protect sensitive data?
MRT train breakdown and service disruptions have become frequent and on one occasion protracted and severe. Services were crippled between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations from Sept 25 to Sept 30. Commuters in the West were severely affected, 500,000 out of 2.8 million MRT journeys. This was soon after an MRT fare rise. There was widespread anger, with many Singaporeans questioning the reliability of the public transport system, the competence of transport authorities, and the accountability of key decision-makers.
Despite significant flood prevention investments in infrastructure, Singapore has experienced repeated severe flooding and flash floods, raising questions about the PAPโs planning for population growth and climate resilience. Drainage systems in our country have become woefully inadequate, reminding older Singaporeans of a time before an earlier PAP fixed flooding.
Then there was SimplyGo, or what many call โSimplyGostanโ! After spending untold amounts, well-paid mandarins and leaders did not realise that users wanted to see their card balances on entry, and then spent a further $40m to retain the existing system. ERP 2.0, a $500 million initiative, has attracted huge criticisms on its roll-out, design and implications, including its huge clunky On-Board Units and its location and speed monitoring, raising privacy concerns. ERP 2.0 was commenced in 2013, intended to rollout in 2020, was delayed, and now intended to be completed by the end of this year.
The list goes on and on. Here are a few more. Recall the broken PAP promises on Trace Together - that it would only be used to fight Covid-19, an assurance that later proved to be a lie. The Allianz acquisition of NTUC Income was called off following huge public outcry. Large swathes of Kranji Forest were discovered by a private citizen to have been bulldozed, ostensibly by mistake.
Singaporeans deserve better. We need leadership that insists on efficiency and delivery. We want accountability when things go wrong. PAPโs โownself check ownselfโ is not working. The claims of outstanding competence and efficiency are simply no longer true.

The hard truth is that the PAP executed a strategic move to victory. First, gerrymandering continue to work and 9 days of campaign has not much impact in a country where overwork is the norm and its every man for him/herself. The incumbent has created a social control where the people are disproportionately dependent on it.
Second, doing the unthinkable. Creating a problem and then coming in to solve the problem to give the perception of competence and care. The GST was raised 2 times to ensure they collected more money from the people. And $1 groceries were mooted at void decks. Fishes and daily necessities were given out to the elderly in the HDBs. They have matched the WP`s approach of groceries in exchange for votes. Kiasusim ensures that HDB flats must rise in price for retirement and the silence by govie on perennial matters have strategically been kept silent and in some cases muted. And it worked as Singaporeans are made desperate and resorted to safety as the fans of fear was spun. A new Singaporean animal is born where votes are now for sale. The same was done with the COE. It was lowered and as a result more cars were sold. Simple move. As more cars were bought and added to the road, the COE was then raised significantly under the pretext of addressing traffic jams and overcrowding on the roads. They created the problem and provided the solution to solve it while making money at the same time. All this while paying themselves 20 times more in salaries per annum than other first world political appointees.
Opposition parties themselves are largely at odds with one another resulting in Marine Parade-Bradell walkover for purpose of distancing WP`s Nicome-Leon Perera marital affairs with Speaker of Parliament, Tan Chuan Jin and MP Cheng Li Hui. WP`s Leader of Opposition has failed to serve ordinary Singaporeans in Marine Parade as it`s own party sits on a razor thin vote margins. Singaporeans will suffer more in this coming decade. The quality of life will drop. They will sleep less and be more overworked and certainly be trapped in their jobs. Singapore has long become like the communist countries in the world where one has to literally work or return to work for its government to survive. The impact of the new citizen votes mainly communist educated PRCs from China (apprx. 5-8%) has a strong impact on change and heartlander Singaporeans` future are tightly sealed. This is a demoralised, internally divided and in part, a fractured and where members of society have a lower trust of one another compared to other nations. Its people will live in a seige survivalist mentality for its generation to come. The oppression and draconian behavior and measures will become more nuanced and sophisticated. The younger generation will likely continue to consider migration or living abroad. The left is today largely annihilated. Resignation and defeatism is now settled. Priviledge and cronyism is now set. The window for change is now sealed.

They will return to their MPs to ask for help. They have created an economic system here which makes families dependent on them unlike in other countries. Singaporeans` mental health are rather low as they have been made overstressed by weak labor laws and a largely monopolistic govie in bed with monopolistic companies and Temasek-Linked companies. The Singapore market is tiny so it`s heavily controlled and not is not as free as one perceives. Crony capitalism is high. Singapore is becoming like the US, substituting guns for implicit fear, draconian measures and sophisticated social control. Income inequality is high and civil servants are fundamentally trapped servants of their political masters as they are not permitted to be more civil than servants but the latter: more servile than civil. The culture will, unfortunately, increasingly grow more toxic as the fear grows old and the young will be influenced from their superiors.

The current PAP MPs, ministers need to monitor their conduct in light of their dinner association with the money launderer. To claim that those ministers did not know who Su is, is quite unbelievable. As a matter of standard protocol, the ministers always have to know those who would attend the gathering and in some cases, they even have to report. None of these were explained instead just a simply brush off. If all these process were followed which they should, then, those who attended must know beforehand who are attending the dinner.
Nothing is wrong if they have not done their home work and did not know Su is the mastermind of money laundering scheme, but what is expected of a minister or MP should be transparent, including when and where and who is the host who gather all the guests. All these remain unanswered and this cast a serious doubt on the integrity of these public office holders.
