Singapore Needs a Dynamic Multi-Party System – The Status Quo is Failing Us.
Singaporeans can no longer afford to place blind faith in the same government to steer us through the storms ahead — be they floods or fires, literal or metaphorical. The current leadership has grown out of touch, entrenched in a bureaucratic machinery that prioritizes preservation of power over people’s welfare.
The everyday Singaporean is feeling the pinch. An unsustainable surge in immigration has strained our infrastructure, deepened inequality, and stoked anxieties about job security and cultural identity. The
dream of home and car ownership is slipping out of reach for many, as property prices and COEs soar with no meaningful intervention. The cost of living continues to climb, but wages and support lag behind.
Meanwhile, the government's priorities appear increasingly skewed. Instead of bold reforms, we see complacency. Instead of empathy, detachment. Instead of people-centric governance, policies that seem to protect elite interests. This is not leadership — it's stagnation.
Singapore deserves better. A vibrant multi-party system can breathe life back into our democracy. Competition in Parliament can drive innovation in policy, amplify diverse voices, and keep those in power accountable. Our future cannot be entrusted to a political elite that appears more concerned with entrenching itself than serving the people.
It’s time to demand more from those who govern. The status quo is no longer acceptable.

It is very puzzling to me that parents in Singapore are not bothered that they are wasting their time, money and energy raising their children; providing them with the best that money can buy all the way to universities.
Only to see their children graduated and having difficulties finding proper employment in the industry that they studied for. Some end up doing other jobs such as food delivery, contract or temp positions and so on. What’s the point of investing so much of your time and money only to see your children go through a life of struggle, unable to support themselves let alone start a family?

Actually it’s not 2%. For instance, we go to hawker centre. They get one type of raw ingredient from their raw ingredient supplier originally for $12 per batch, the new cost with 2% increase is $12.24. However, this raw ingredient supplier rounds up. Which minister or common citizen wants to get and use 4-5 cents these days even if the coins are legal tender ?
This means the actual amount paid by the hawker to this raw ingredient supplier could be $12.30 or above. Ditto for all other raw ingredients that he is getting and the increase on the hawker just for raw materials cannot be 2%.
That hawker has to look for the next price bracket to charge his food. Otherwise, his take home is reduced or he has to pull the shutters.
If his original bowl of noodles is $4, along with other 2% increases, he cannot be charging $4.08 even though that may be the theoretical breakeven. Who pays with 8 cents these days ? To simplify his administration work of counting coins from $4.10, $4.20, $4.30, or $4.40, he raises it to $4.50.
When he raises the noodles from $4 to $4.50, the increase on the end consumer won’t be 2%, but 12.5%.
2% GST is a good concept theoretically if the government needs the revenue somehow to fund other expenses. However, it is a wrong idea to think that a 2% GST increase equates to 2% increase in living costs. This is a key reason why the GST increase gets ill effects that the government does not want to admit.
