To put it simply: 1st, it provides for the citizenry in the case where private businessmen do not find it profitable to do so i.e. street lamps, fire-fighting force etc. 2nd, it guarantees... 

Urgent appeal to fellow Singaporean voters, Many of you must be excited over this GE where a record 82 out of 87 seats are being contested. (It may also be the first time that you get to vote because of previous walkovers.) Many of you have also been to the rallies and heard the issues and the agenda of the opposition parties.... 

I hope and urge that contributors to this Temasek Review will stop using the word "Opposition", this is a very negative word and it does not give a positive feeling to the political party, cause political party do not oppose for the sake of opposing. A better term for political party would be "alternate" party, which give a...
