In 2006, the govt gave out up to $800 in cash as part of the "progress package". The money was deposited into Singaporeans bank account on 1 May 2006 and the election was held on 6 May 2006. The "progress package" cost the govt about $2.6B. It is hard not be happy to see cash in your bank account especially when you're poor...
