I read with mixed feelings that about 470,000 lower income Singaporeans (LISs) will receive their Workfare Special Payment (WSP) in October. On one hand, I am much hearten that during this unprecedented and challenging time, LISs are again getting some much needed financial help from the government. Why did the trade union leaders felt offended by being described as folksy? Google show the definition of folksy - informal and unpretentious. I would have thought that the description is complimentary. Perhaps some of them prefer to be described as elitist or snobbish? I hope not. When I read this description, I thought immediately...
