New laws for President and ministers to hold roles in foreign and global organisation
Singapore proposes new laws for President and ministers to hold roles in foreign and global organisations - CNA online, 6 November 2023.
I am a native born citizen and I would like to share my humble 2 cents opinion on the above matter. I will be blunt.
Singaporeans believe and elected our political leaders to contribute and to provide our country and its people their very best, undivided and utmost ability, competent services and leadership. Not forgetting, Singaporeans do not shortchange them their political remunerations too.
Singaporeans most definitely did not elect our President and our ministers to moonlighting or so that they can moonlight in their high offices.
I am forever mindful that our President and our ministers are mere mortal beings and not supermen or superwomen.
Those proponents of the new laws may argue their case super eloquently and seductively and they are totally capable of doing that, however, the first thought that came to my mind regarding this new proposal is that we are venturing into potentially slippery slopes and tempting to open the Pandora's box which, to me, is unwise. Let me explain.
Going forward, if the laws are passed and our President and ministers start legally holding appointments in overseas and global organisations and over time, if the sexiness, opportunities and 'lucrative ness' of such appointments overshadow their political responsibility, appointments and political salaries etc, then Singapore and Singaporeans must lose out and lose out big time.
I am old enough and I believe also street-smart enough not to kid myself. I repeat, we are dealing with human beings and not supermen/superwomen and everything has a price. We live in a real world. We don't live in utopia.
President and ministers moonlighting is different from MPs holding multiple directorships in various companies and organisations.
Elected MPs holding too many directorships in various companies and organisations is bad enough and if the temptation and the seduction are too much for our elected President and ministers to bear, I say to them loud and clear, get out of the kitchen because Singaporeans deserve their total, complete and undivided attention and devotion.
And in case they have forgotten, worthy politics must involve honour and demand sacrifices. Period!

Dear Simon,
Don’t talk c0ck.
In the first place, did you give local Singaporeans your total, complete and undivided attention and devotion ?
No right ? Because when I ask: What can Opposition do for me, all you opposition chicken out and keep quiet.
Can Opposition take the lead and give local Singaporeans your total, complete and undivided attention and devotion by answering the question above ?

This proposal must have been part of the scheme all along, with Tharman. How is that voters had been left with the impression that Tharman would have to give up all those international appointments? So, we have been deliberately left to be misled, not knowing what we were voting for? Is that “transparency”, “honesty, and being “fair” to voters and the other candidates?

How many times do Singaporeans need to be screwed before they realise that every decision of the PAP is in their own interests. 74% voted for Tharman who has turned out to be a sheep in wolf’s clothing. He knew he can retain all his global positions because his party will pass the bill in Parliament. They have the majority and everything was pre-planned. They spent $700,000 to ensure no one sees the Reserves and Tharman is free to do as he pleases. We have been scammed once again.

This is not panic talk. When you have a village party solidifying their position at all costs even to the detriment and marginalisation of villagers, you know that the demise of the land is near. You have fertility rates that cannot climb and that village party keeps harping that THEY DID EVERYTHING. 3.5 years to go before population disaster takes place from now.

Looking at Singapore and US, we learn that laws are made to legalize what is wrong.
You want to take money from the state? Make laws to legalize it.
You want to attack a country? Make laws to legalize that.
Everything can be done legally, under national law, or “international rule order”.
In the old days, gangsters would extract money from car owners. Nowadays, laws are made to extract COE and other monies from car owners.
With might, gangsters will look like heroes. Brutal mass murderers will look like hero liberators.

The moonlighting EP is quick to attend to foreign duties is not good for the people as he will not be able to execute his duties to “safeguard Singapore’s national reserves and ensure the integrity of the public service” properly but the pappy govt is happy!
