Singaporeans will not become the minority in Singapore-DPM Wong, 9 May 24. The Straits Times online.
With a fast aging population, pap government's total failure at tackling our plunging total fertility rate over the decades, immigration and new citizens (NCs) are all related issues and will greatly affect our population policies.
I am comforted by DPM Wong's assurance but at the same time, I have big reservations. Let me explain.
Let us have no illusion but be absolutely clear in our minds that our new citizens do not come from their original motherland to Singapore to make babies for us.
Each and every single one of them must have thought through very, very deeply and very, very carefully and have done their sums before they finally surrender their original citizenship to embrace ours.
Those school going ones and the economically active adults must salivate and worship our education systems and for economic reasons and opportunities that our country offers them and for the seniors, more likely for familial reasons etc.
Every single one of them has his/her/their own reasons and agendas to become Singaporeans. Please pardon me but I am quite unconvinced about their absolute and total loyalty to Singapore, at least for the first generation of new citizens. The no need to serve National Service policy for those first generation male NCs screamed so loudly in my face!
In order to effectively make up for the successive passing and the much under replacement level of native citizens, pap government must work doubly or even triple hard to give out more and more new citizenships to ensure that, in the words of DPM Wong, 'Singaporeans will not become a minority in Singapore'. There is no rocket science in it and the realisation is definitely not worth SGD 2 million.
In the midst of all the noises and online postings about NCs and population policies etc, I feel that one key point is missing.
I would appreciate it greatly if the manpower or the home affairs minister can share with Singaporeans just how many NCs surrender their Singapore passport in the first 3 years and subsequently in the first 10 years after they have got them. This will give us some idea of their so-called commitment and loyalty to our country Singapore.
I will repeat a past suggestion.
I welcome NCs and I acknowledge their usefulness and contributions to Singapore, however, since first generation male NCs need not perform National Service of any sort and I doubt if any meaningful numbers of them even volunteer to serve, all NCs should not be allowed to vote in our electoral elections in the first 5 years after obtaining their Singapore citizenship to avoid any undule influence over our domestic affairs and more importantly, our national elections.
Nothing, no policy should ever be craved in stone. I believe that my suggestion is not an unreasonable one.

The population stats of SGS must not continue to reflect PRs under “LOCALS” but non-sgs should ALL be segregated from sgs as a statistic to reflect the true state of things as non-sgs including PRs are a large statistic here.

What me sincerely abhors is the hypocritic feedbacks of some sgs especially so-called grassrooters to their MPs and Ministers/MPs.
Many FALSE impressions have been forged and etched into the LEADERS’ minds as can be confirmed by the kind of unkind remarks made officially against common sgs from calling us xenophobic to ungracious.
The TRUTH these days is MANY,IF NOT MOST,FRs/foreigners here are much more less respectful towards THEIR SG-HOSTS ,even towards the ELDERLY SGS.
In fact,these non-sgs behaved rudely and disrespectfully towards common sgs.
They probably know well HOW TO PRETEND TO BE GRACIOUS in front of those SGS WHOM THEY THINK COULD BENEFIT THEM!
What i say here is not out of spite but the true state of affairs.
This can only get worse if allowed to continue.
In the past when the NON-CITIZENS numbers were lower,the NON-SGS were more respectful.
No one who views things with integrity can deny what i put here，not even the NON-SGS themselves.
The trouble here is MISREPORTING FROM MSM and FALSE FEEDBACKS FRON GRASSROOTERS.

Truth remains that numerous former-sgPMETs have been relegated to become the NEW POOR class.
When these sgs were contributing toward Nation-building ,they took LOW PAY,even WAGE FREEZES and DEEP CPF cuts.
Now,after being rendered with joblessness(unemployed,UNDER-employed),they have to contend with high COL and even high GST and other forms of levie$.
Their past savings mostly got depleted the last 20 years with all those less-than-friendly-citizens public policie$.
It is unjust ,not just unfair,for these sgs to continue facing such HIGH COL with very little social assistance.
THE YOUNG SGS at least have much higher salaries to mitigate the Higher COL BUT NOT the retirees and those experiencing “JOBLESSNESS”.
The G needs to do more to bring down COL instead of merely applying mitigators like CDC VOUCHERS that does not actually BRING DOWN COL effectively.
Prices are still elevated and will keep elevating with “CDC VOUCHERS” as businesses keep jackiing up profits.
Greed cannot be encouraged as GREEDY PEOPLEcan never be $atiated.

I have never ever observed,on AVERAGE, in the countries i visited the kind of DISOECTFULNESS NON-NATIONALS accorded toward the nationals of those countries the way NON-CITIZENS(FTs,others) accord SGS in the country we built so well that such alien$ flock here by the planeloads.

The NCs who gave up their SG citizenships against those who are made eligible are not low. Merely stating that SG citizens will not be the minority is NOT ENOUGH because THAT PARTY can always play musical chairs. One end 10000 giving up citizenships and the other end qualify another 10000-12000 new ones. Net effect is SG citizens still not minority but come on, isn’t this doublespeak ?
Voting should not be allowed in the first ten years instead of first five years. NCs can fast track their voting rights to five years if they do NS but not in some medical research on soil diseases like you know whose son.

So what did these clowns go and do? Why, let in even more on the basis of “cannot close our doors to foreigners” and “fast ageing population” of course.
Before you know it, they will once again proudly publish the rubbish that Singaporeans are still the majority but conveniently leaving out the numbers of those who have converted. We all know our TFR is below 1 now so let’s wait and see how fast it gets to 0.5 lah. The government isn’t interested in making it easier for young couples to have more children lah, they just like to wayang nia.
Next election is coming soon so expect all the usual nonsense about needing a strong mandate lah, look after Singaporeans lah etc etc. All we need to do is vote as many of them out as possible, otherwise the cost of living will never ever come down nor “affordable” flat prices.

They come from mostly 3rd world countries. It’s a step up. They are here for jobs with higher pay and a better standard of living.

If the rumor I heard about Wong being a One-term seat-warmer is indeed true before Keeqiu takes over for another term, then I doubt he can really effect any real changes to the existing situation on the island, especially with the LEEder watching over his shoulder from behind the curtain.

I think the mistake that we are making is still holding onto the false believe that the PAP will listen to the ground and make the changes to benefit the State and it’s Citizens. So Simon writes this and that but rest assured that the PAP’s only goal is to remain in power endlessly so don’t expect any changes in our interests. The handouts prior to elections will increase. The simple minded who don’t understand governance will vote in the PAP. After which it is business as usual with no accountability as they have already been voted in. We are the minority now and if we don’t vote in the Opposition we will lose our Singaporean identify which will be replaced with the identity of the South Indians, Malaysians etc. Our last possible win to retain our identity is in the ballot box. There is no other way to save ourselves and State.
