Last night I had the strangest dream of my life. In my dream I met Divinity who was disguised as a polar bear. I knewthere was something fishy about a polar bear who don't like fish. It didn't seem at all interested in the fishes swimming abundantly without a care in the world. My suspicion that something was amiss was confirmed... 

Yes, you did not read the title wrongly, but I think subsidies are just a side effect of flawed policies that do not address the underlying problem or root cause. Subsidies are like inflated price tags that deflate, become someone was made poorer over a period of time, and it seems everything in Singapore seems to be overpriced...
