Good Afternoon all, If you wish to support a cause. Do it for the right and not the wrong reasons. Firstly, if you go to TOC and read most of the comments posted concerning Vui Kong. You will notice one glaring inconsistency – absolutely no intelligent comments from those who may see the need to keep the death penalty against the fight against drugs. Ask yourself this: how is that even possible? This is not because many Singaporeans, residents and even Malaysians have not written to TOC expressing their views in support of the MDP. It just means TOC has deleted these comments in order to engineer consent on this subject. So let us be very clear here. The picture TOC presents to the world does not in any way represent an accurate appraisal of what most readers feel about this subject – it is designed to reflect ONLY the views of the owner of TOC and their inner circle. Secondly, not everyone who supports the MDP relishes the prospects of taking a life – many broach this very serious subject with intense reservation – and here again TOC attempts to hijack the image of the reasonable man; as time and again, they keep on harping that only the inane can justify taking a life of another no matter how serious the crime; in the universe of TOC no one who is of sound mind and moral probity can possibly not see the wisdom of sparing a life instead of taking it. On the contrary, this narrative misleads – as it is precisely because many of us value, respect and honor life, that is why we are prepared to make uncomfortable moral compromises to protect many who may otherwise fall victim to the vicious cycle of drug abuse. Ultimately, the question boils down to only this: do you consider the drug trade to be a real and present danger to our society? If answered in the negative. Then by all means go to Hong Lim Park. Have a ball. Only as I have said, if you wish to support something –do it for the right reasons and not the wrong ones. However if you do consider the drug trade to be what most reasonable believe it to be – the greatest solvent that menaces society – then consider: how is any civilization supposed to perpetuate its inalienable right to self determination when confronted with such a ferocious enemy? How do you even find common ground with those who may not wish to live and let live; and have no reservations in using every available means (including the young and ignorant) to get their contraband to our shores just to turn a quick buck? How are we to reason with the enemy who doesn’t even perceive any moral contradiction about poisoning your mummy, sister, her friends and the people who we love and care for in our community? Can anyone tell me how this can be done? I think not. It is very easy to buy into TOC’s homily sugary fairytale that all we have to do is to dismantle the MDP and all of us can suddenly be enlightened beings and live happily ever after and good will somehow triumph over the forces of darkness. You don’t need to be very intelligent to unravel the weakness in that argument –because the question still stands, how can we continue to effectively protect our society from the drug menace in the absence of resolve in the shape and form of the MDP? TOC is not only disinterested in this narrative. They refuse to even have an all inclusive debate on this subject – the search for lasting truth is the furthest thing from their minds. As I suspect they know very little about what conditions first needs to be obtained to create a drug free Singapore. Otherwise why even bother deleting post on those who choose to speak intelligently and informatively about the need to keep the MDP? Neither have they even devoted so much as one article, one sentence, one paragraph on the need to maintain the MDP to facilitate you the reader to gain a better understanding on this subject – so that you can make an informed decision concerning this subject – so pray tell, how can you even buy into TOC’s idea if what they are really showing you is only one side of the coin? PAP Minister without portfolio Lim Swee Say is slammed by irate netizens for the "Zorro" outfit which he wore at Singhealth's Nurses' Day celebrations yesterday at the Singapore General Hospital. Flanked by an entourage of movie characters like the Storm Troopers and Batman, Mr Lim made a surprise appearance at the event where he tried to charm the nurses by giving out roses to them. The Straits Times published a total of seven photos of Mr Lim in his "Zorro" outfit which unfortunately did not impress many. Dexter Wong said sarcastically: "Zorro robs the rich to give to the poor, Zuobo (do nothing) in hokkien robs the poor to give to the rich." Salihin did not mince his words: "Zorro? More like a bumbling buffoon!" Danny Koh added: "Thought by only paying peanuts you get monkeys, Now you pay Millions you get Zorro?" Patrick Lee: "Serious! this 'chinese helicopter' dressed like a Zorro??....so he thinks he can get Catherine Zeta-Jones who co-star in one of the Zorro fillms...hahahaaaaa! This nerd and twixt, really is a clown who is worth to be paid million dollars sal...aah-ee.. salah ..really... salah to have such a clown."   Mr Lim's "wayang" as "Zorro" did not come cheap for Singaporeans. In an online poll conducted by Channel News Asia, a shocking 90 percent of Singaporeans polled said they are not interested in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) while 3 percent had not heard about it at all: [Source: Channel News Asia] The results of the poll confirm the real sentiments on the ground despite some desperate attempts by the state media to generate fake support for the YOG to save the PAP its blushes. The PAP has already received much flak from the public for exceeding the initial budget for YOG by more than two times. It is expected to splurge more than S$389 million dollars on the event. While the Singapore media has given extensive coverage to the YOG, it is hardly reported elsewhere. The Malaysian papers did not even carry a single report on it. Though the PAP has launched a publicity campaign for the YOG including putting up banners at all HDB estates, the response from Singaporeans has been lukewarm so far, prompting Minister of Youth, Community Development and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to issue a public call for Singaporeans to “rally” behind the YOG. “We need every Singaporean to understand that this is not just about sports or young people – it’s for all Singaporeans…..’All the effort that we invest in this will be wasted if every Singaporean doesn’t feel that this is a once-in-a-lifetime (event), that the Olympic flame is going to come to Singapore in such a close way and isn’t touched by it or affected by the Olympic spirit one way or another,” he was quoted as saying in the Straits Times. While Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has no qualms splurging $389 million dollars for his YOG "ego trip", he is reluctant to spend more to help needy and poor Singaporeans. When asked by a fellow PAP MP Dr Lily Neo in Parliament in 2007 to increase the monthly allowance for Public Aid (PA) recipients so that they can have three basic meals a day, Dr Vivian replied callously: "How much do you want? Do you want three meals a day at a hawker center, food court or restaurant?" Unfortunately, money cannot buy everything in life. Based on the signs so far, YOG is likely to become a big FLOP. Most Singaporeans simply do not care a damn about YOG let alone be "touched" or "affected" by the Olympic spirit as reflected by the poll result.
