This is not a game of cardsThis is not a game of cards I can appreciate parties wanting to hold their cards close to their chest, but the smoke and mirrors games on nominations day, the shuffling of the DPM from a seat he had openly been declared to be defending, and other ministers shuffling constituencies leaves one feeling the PAP thinks it is playing a game of cards.

Read More →

在《Matrix》里,孟菲斯要尼欧对红色或者蓝色药丸做出抉择的时候,他说:“You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”——从影片的开场,有个女郎身上的兔子纹身到这段,玩的都是《爱丽丝梦游奇境》的隐喻。 You're not in Kansas anymore. Read More →

China national charged for operating brothels in HDB estates

China national charged for operating brothels in HDB estates

Written by Our Correspondent A 32 year old China national by the name of Wei Xiao Zhen was charged in court today for operating two unlicenced brothels in Bukit Panjang and Jurong West. Located at the HDB void decks, the two shops were supposed to be massage parlors, but the ladies working within were actually providing sexual services to men. According to residents of Jurong West familiar with the shop which accepts only male clients, men could be seen entering and leaving the backdoor of the massage parlor. It is not known if Ms Wei is a Singapore PR or how she managed to come to Singapore in the first place. Due to the ruling party's liberal immigration policy, many mainland Chinese have flocked to Singapore to study and work in recent years. While some of them are highly qualified professionals, most hail from the poorer inland provinces of China. There were reports of China cleaners, construction workers, masseurs and beauticians being given Singapore PRs and citizenships in the papers. Before a series of anti-vice raids launched by the police two years ago, massage parolors masquerading as brothels were ubiquitous in the HDB heartlands. Many of them were operated by China PRs, "pei du mamas" and China nationals on short-term tourist visit pass. Though they claimed to offer massage services outside the shop, it is a different story inside. The men paid only $20 - $25 for the massage while the women earned "additional" income by offering a variety of sexual services from "half-package" to "full package" which can cost up to $100. For these China women whose earned only about SGD$200 - $400 monthly back home in China, they can earn quite a lot working as freelance prostitutes in Singapore. In a recent interview with the National Geographic magazine, MM Lee Kuan Yew said it is a "good thing" that Singapore has welcomed so many Chinese immigrants as they are more "hard-driving and hard-striving" than locals. "If native Singaporeans are falling behind because “the spurs are not stuck into the hide,” that is their problem," he was quoted as saying in the article "The Singapore Solution." [Source: National Geographic] These Chinese women are definitely very "hard-driving" - not only do they work for long hours providing "special services" to Singapore men, they also help to contribute to Singapore's flagging birth rates, sometimes by "accident".
