Felicia Teo Recently, there has been a flurry of developments to the missing case of the Late Felicia Teo who vanished since 2007. Fast forward to Dec 2020, (not withstanding the anxiety and anguish her loved ones faced during these 13 years) there has finally been a murder charge labelled on a Malay gentleman while the other remains at large. All credit goes solely to Social Media, which have been reposting the Late Felicia’s case in the lead up to yesterday’s apprehension. Now, before we rejoice at this juncture beneath layers of police incompetency that State media is trying its best to conceal, let us re-examine a crucial fact of this case with our layman and commonsensical analysis. How can neighbourhood police take the word of the 2 accused when they could not locate any footage of the Late Felicia leaving her alleged murder venue before classifying the case as 1 of disappearance, when there were also many other glaring factors suggesting otherwise? How can it take this long for a serious case like this to escalate to the specialised branch of police (CID) when it only took less than 2 months for CID to charge Terry Xu and Daniel De Costa and slightly more than a month to prosecute M. Ravi for criminal defamation? And mind you, no police reports were ever made for the above 2 mentioned cases while a frantic mother of her late daughter had filed police reports. Crucial and lots of precious evidence material would have been lost by now! What also entreats me and brings to memory, is the ‘diligence’ of DSP Jonathan Au Yong in wanting to “retrieve” email contents of ex-convict Sim Wee Lee to implicate De Costa in the trial, when it was revealed in Court that Sim never made any reports nor intended to complain about De Costa’s usage of the disputed email account. To date, Commercial Affairs has also not brought to Justice, swindlers who cheated so many elderly of their hard earned savings which they deposited at “Cuffz Holdings Pte Ltd” in a case of 2012. Ms Tin Pei Ling’s numerous letters to CAD on this issue has also not seen the light of day! Under these circumstances, will you continue to accept such shady work of police in investigating serious crimes but displaying vigour when it comes to “fixing” their paymaster’s opponents? Click to enlarge These days, Singaporeans are fond of calling the police. They treat the police as if they are their servants. They call them for everything, from inconsiderate parking of vehicles to occasional noise from neighbours made past the time permitted. Little wonder that the police have no time to solve real crime and the minister laments that he has insufficient police officers. Our strange, irrational,intolerant and irresponsible behaviour reminds me of my childhood days when adults used to threaten children who were naughty with: “I call the police to arrest you! or wa kio mata lai liak!” The adults never carry out their threats but threats are threats and they have probably remained with those children who are now adults! Perhaps this bad habit of calling the police is the manifestation of childhood trauma! The recent case of the lady at Ang Mo Kio being manhandled by so many police officers is probably the result of one phone call from a person who instead of attempting to resolve the problem himself or herself or minding his or her own business, called the police. I understand the lady was a little unstable in the mind and may have been shouting or gesticulating on the pavement. In Singapore, people with mental issues are not a rare sight. It is understandable because living in a city is very stressful, even if it is a garden city. Everything is so expensive. And resting in the public park is not welcome. Is calling the police the best way to treat a mentally disturbed person. I doubt the police are trained to handle such people. Not so long ago, I saw a video of a man with probably a bottle of beer, minding his own business in the park. I remember the police tasered him and he fell to the ground. Like the lady, he was then forcefully arrested by a number of police officers. What is wrong with our society? Why are we so intolerant or helpless that we have to depend on our police for everything? If animals are injured, we call ACRES or RSPCA to rescue them. Are human beings less important than animals? In first world Singapore, is there no organisation to help people who suffer mental illness than untrained police officers whose only solution is to use force and send them to police lockups, adding to their already troubled minds.   Teo Soh Lung        Read More →

My sense after talking with some friends and former colleagues about going for the free C19 vaccination is that there are plenty of apprehensions and reservations among them. To any lay person including myself, the mere knowledge that throughout history, effective vaccines developed against diseases and viruses such as rubella, chickenpox, mumps, smallpox, typhoid fever and tuberculosis etc took years and years and some even more years of research and development before they became safe and effective for mass vaccinations while C19 vaccines took only under 1 year to mass market definitely makes any thinking person sit-up and/or feeling uneasy. What is worst is that there was absolutely no mention of any medical indemnity should people develop adverse reactions, complications or even death as a result from getting such C19 jabs during lhl's recent speech and the press conference that followed. There was total silence from both the pap ministers and the vaccine manufacturer, Pfizer BioNtech, thus far. It is most disappointing that nobody at that press conference asked this basic but important question. I have a thought. As far as getting the C19 jab is concerned, I would hope to see hardcore pap supporters including new citizens come out in force and rally to the calls of a government that they so strongly support and show their support in real and tangible way by getting an early C19 jab for themselves and their family members. Pap has a large membership base numbering many thousands. PA has many thousands more members too. I say the time has come for all of them to step forward and show their confidence and support for a government that they so proudly align with and not quietly fade into oblivion or quietly disappear until don't know where as far as the national C19 vaccination program is concerned. I am in favour of C19 vaccinations but I am not in favour of rushing into one. It is time for pap supporters to step up to the plate and not quietly step away. Think.   Simon Lim      Read More →
