This is not a game of cardsThis is not a game of cards I can appreciate parties wanting to hold their cards close to their chest, but the smoke and mirrors games on nominations day, the shuffling of the DPM from a seat he had openly been declared to be defending, and other ministers shuffling constituencies leaves one feeling the PAP thinks it is playing a game of cards.

Cwc-Ai

Are our healthcare workers adequately protected against COVID-19?

Are our healthcare workers adequately protected against COVID-19?

Our Covid-19 healthcare front liners are some of the biggest heroes out there, working and braving the deadly virus. Being a front liner means that they will potentially come into contact with the virus most of the time, during their course of duty. Covid-19 knows no boundaries, race, religion, wealth status, etc. They are not kind or forgiving to anyone and this affects the front line healthcare workers even more since studies have shown that most spread originated from hospitals. As of 4th May, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported another 3 more healthcare workers being infected by COVID-19 and it appears the tally is not going to stop anytime soon as long as the deadly virus has not been effectively contained. It is common knowledge that the deadly virus spreads by droplets, fomites and may even be airborne (though limited life-span). It is without doubt, a highly contagious virus. So are our healthcare workers adequately protected, especially those who are in constant contact with infected patients? The attached photos speak for itself. Healthcare workers in Singapore General hospital (Source: SGH Facebook) versus Standard Practise for Hospital in Hubei Province, China. What do you think?      Read More →

Our economy is slowing opening up for business again

Our economy is slowing opening up for business again

I read with mixed feelings that our economy is slowing opening up for business again. To lockdown the economy is costing our country a bomb every passing day, however, when weight against the risks of further C19 community spread and the risk to public health, the decision is a difficult one, however, we are also seeing lower community spread everyday too. On balance, I support the government's decision to open up the economy cautiously, step up testings and hopefully, to detect and arrest any community spread and clusters early. In our zeal to open up, I wish to further see one specific official effort step up and I cannot over emphasis. Enforcement efforts to catch and fine people for flouting and failure to wear mask when they step out of their houses, safe-distancing and gatherings MUST BE STEPPED UP. It would be better if the quantum of fine for 1st time offenders be increased to $500/ , the numbers of enforcement officers be substantially increased and enforcement officers could be much firmer when they go about their rounds. I live in a mature estate and everywhere I turn, be it the open spaces, void decks or market places etc, too many people simply hang a mask below their chin but couldn't be bothered to wear it properly. Too many people are just going through the motion of wearing a mask and almost none of them have ever been caught or penalised so far. If the authorities couldn't be bothered again to step up some serious enforcement efforts while we open up our economy and if C19 were to come back again, it is likely to come back with a vengeance and its sebsequently waves of infections will extract even higher cost on us both in terms of human lives and on our alearly much beaten economy. Dear "exceptional" pap ministars, you have been publicly reminded and warned. Think.   Simon Lim      Read More →
