Trump blinked again on tariffs, but China isn't in the clearTrump blinked again on tariffs, but China isn't in the clear I refer to the CNA’s Commentary: Trump blinked again on tariffs, but China isn't in the clear. (May 15) One deniable fact: There are no winners on either side (between China and the United States) in the trade and tariff war. Yet, Trump still persists to do it. It is not surprising that Trump has increased China's...

This is not a game of cardsThis is not a game of cards I can appreciate parties wanting to hold their cards close to their chest, but the smoke and mirrors games on nominations day, the shuffling of the DPM from a seat he had openly been declared to be defending, and other ministers shuffling constituencies leaves one feeling the PAP thinks it is playing a game of cards. Constituency...

Cwc-Ai

Hui Hui on #ReturnOurCPF Protest Event

Hui Hui on #ReturnOurCPF Protest Event

Han Hui Hui Fellow Singaporeans, The only time I had a script was during my first speech in August 2013. Ever Since last November, I had no script as there’s no time to prepare any at all. The crowd this time round did not respond the way I expected them to. I expected people to be angry with the increase in Medishield Life premium. I blanked out at the stage as I’ve never expected anyone to cry over what I’ve said. There were cheers when I was up speaking, but as I spoke, the tears rolled down the faces of the elderly. It later on caused a commotion at the back of the stage. Yes, I’m only 22 years old but my first CPF contribution was in 2007 and my latest CPF contribution was just last month. There were people who are concerned if I will be dismissed from my job soon for all these advocacy. Thank you everyone for your messages, I do read them. I’m prepared for the consequences as I know this is not a level playing field. I would rather lead a life knowing that I fought and bear the outcome than to lead a life doing nothing. To hear them speak out on their problems, to hear them talk about how they feel, it’s saddening. It’s sad, but I will not cry. Because this is not a time for crying. This is the time to fight for transparency and accountability for our CPF. If the regulation continues to grow at 10k per year, by the time I reach the retirement age of 55, I will have at least half a million being locked up by them. This is why I fight: I fight against tyranny. We need to fight for democracy and put a stop to these. I believe we need to unite together and build a compassionate society. We need to build a more inclusive society and we must not give up hope on people who are ignorant to these issues that are happening. Rather, we’ve to wake up them so that they will vote wisely. On 7 June, the topic was CPF minimum sum. On 12 July, it’s Medishield Life. As said, once a month is only 12 times a year and it’s not enough to raise the awareness to reach out to the 60%. Our next event will be on 23 August: https://www.facebook.com/events/648543138548193/ Videos to the event on 12 July are available for sharing as follow: Mr Kin Lian Tan: http://youtu.be/V9bhrR9Rruo RP Kenneth Jeyaretnam: http://youtu.be/-c-EeJdV6mw SDP Chong W Fung: http://youtu.be/q_ItGAwG0oM Mr Vincent Wijeysingha: http://youtu.be/Xpjpsr66nFE Mr Ariffin Sha: http://youtu.be/2XOOI-a1xZc Mr Leong Sze Hian: http://youtu.be/z_QdtXVR8qc Ms Han Hui Hui: http://youtu.be/na9J01GtJic Mr Roy Ngerng: http://youtu.be/mTu9qNCRM_A   Hui Hui    Read More →

Lim: Aljunied residents getting used to new PAP team

Lim: Aljunied residents getting used to new PAP team

Lim Boon Heng, "special adviser" to the chairman of the People's Association PM Lee made his first public appearance in Aljunied GRC yesterday night (13 Jul) since his party, the PAP, lost the constituency to the Workers' Party (WP) in May 2011 at the last GE. Mr Lee was there to launch the Care programme, which stands for communication, action, response and engagement. It is a community messaging and alert system rolled out by the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) in Aljunied GRC. Care is supposed to help residents communicate with one another to help each other should anything happen. It's not known how effective this programme will turn out to be given that most residents will likely contact their immediate family members or relatives should something happen . Mr Lee said, "Tell your friends and ask them to also join in the care network and support your CCC chairman and your grassroots so we can make this a good place." Some 5,000 attended last night's launch with hundreds of people surrounding PM Lee, all wanting to take pictures with him. Hundreds of people wearing red all wanting to take pictures with PM Lee. (ST Photo) Mr Lim Boon Heng, who accompanied the PM at last night's event, told reporters, "As you can see, the morale in the grassroots has improved since 2011. The level of activities has increased... Residents are also getting used to the team." Mr Lim, currently the chairman of Temasek Holdings, was present at the event as the "special adviser" to the chairman of the People's Association. He said that PAP's slate of potential candidates for WP-held Aljunied GRC is "getting into place". "Of course, party strategy can change according to the situation," he added. "We've a number of people working on the ground but have to see if they are best suited for this place or not." Since the last GE, the former team of PAP candidates have all left Aljunied GRC: Lim Hwee Hua Cynthia Phua Ong Ye Kung George Yeo Zainul Abidin Rasheed Even the 'What-Doesn’t-Kill-You-Makes-You-Stronger' Ong Ye Kung, who originally left behind in Aljunied GRC to take care of matters, has also moved to Sembawang GRC. Presently, the new chairmen of the PAP branches in Aljunied GRC are: Victor Lye for Bedok Reservoir-Punggol division (grassroots activist [Link]) K Muralidharan Pillai for Paya Lebar division (grassroots activist [Link]) Chan Hui Yuh for Serangoon division (grassroots activist [Link]) Chua Eng Leong for Eunos division (son of former Cabinet Minister Chua Sian Chin) Kahar Hassan for Kaki Bukit division (SMRT Deputy Director), who took over from Ong Ye Kung The PAP's branch chairmen are usually its elected or slated candidates for that ward. Mr Lim told the reporters that the current PAP's potential new line-up for Aljunied GRC "are very committed". "They are the hard-working type," Mr Lim said. Mr Victor Lye, who also chairs the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol CCC under PA, said of the turnout, "There are people who know the Government can do a good job. While it is not perfect, they know this Government is doing something for the people - it is not short term."    Read More →

Double confirm, PAP supporting Germany/ PAP MPs are B’Stard?

Double confirm, PAP supporting Germany/ PAP MPs are B’Stard?

PAP MPs are B'Stards? On Monday, I said that the PAP would be cheering on any other term except the Argies because their mgr is only the 22nd best paid mgr out of the 32 teams. And we know what a PAP eye doctor MP thinks of people who are not as well paid as he is: he doesn’t respect them. Well go read yr Sat ST front page and see what it says: PAP is predicting and rooting a German win. So let’s cheer on the Argies. Their mgr is only paid 23% of that of the German mgr’s salary (6th in the rankings). And if the Argies win an unlikely victory, remind the PAP at every possible opportunity that being well-paid doesn’t mean gd performance. The Russians, English and Italians crashed out in the first round despite paying the highest salaries. BTW Brazil’s mgr is the 4th best paid but he got form as a World Cup winner. As the footie. Expect a boring game. The Germans’ thrashing of Brazil notwithstanding, the rest of Germany’s matches have been tight, quiet affairs, and Argentina survived the knockout stage by winning 1-0, 1-0, and 0-0 on penalties. Now onto PAP MPs. Rik Mayall died suddenly a few months back of a heart attack. He was the most original and funniest of the alternative comedians who emerged in the early 1980s and still dominate British television. They were maverick, furious and stridently political, though sometimes wonderfully imprecise in their aim. (Economist). He played a character called B’Stard, in the uproarious political satire The New Statesman and the following lines should amuse S’poreans, esp the PM, because one can imagine a PAP MP (Lily Neo, Halimah, Denise Phua, Puthu* excepted) talking like B’Stard. Think the eye doctors and Kate Spade (remember her YPAP speech that the poor must only be helped minimally) Alan B’Stard: We hear an awful lot of leftie whingeing about NHS [UK's publicly funded heathcare system] waiting lists. Well the answer’s simple. Shut down the health service. Result? No more waiting lists. You see, in the good old days, you were poor, you got ill and you died. And yet these days people seem to think they’ve got some sort of God-given right to be cured. And what is the result of this sloppy socialist thinking? More poor people. In contrast, my policies would eradicate poor people, thereby eliminating poverty. And they say that we … have no heart. Alan B’Stard: I suppose life’s just too easy for me. I mean, I’m incredibly rich, I’ve got the largest majority on the House of Commons and, if I was any better looking, I think people would suspect I was an android. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-27772259 — *The male PAP MPs who are medical doctors are shown up by this FT male Doc. Maybe taz why the PAP inducted him? It wanted a male Dr who could show compassion. Too bad he didn’t do NS and sneered at NSmen. But if AWARE can sneer at NSmen with impunity (their FT partners will defend them), let’s forgive Puthu. That he didn’t do NS isn’t his fault, PAP kicked (sort of) dad out.   Cynical Investor [Source]: Thoughts of a Cynical Investor (http://atans1.wordpress.com).      Read More →
